Interview of Charlton live suggests he meant it - he commented that he always scores a great goal every season and he didn;t think he had this season - he doesn't count free-kicks- but he said he the Hartlepool goal was his great goal for the season.
I spoke to him after the game by the east stand (we are of course now best friends ; ) ). I congratulated him on his season and on the goal and of course asked him if it was deliberate, Yann said it was meant to be and that he did it on purpose. Also a top bloke and a lovely guy as he tried to meet as many people as possible. I love this man.
thought at the time that he was just putting it back in the mix. Thought his reaction was one of embarrassment. However the more I watch it the more convinced I am that he meant it and am convinced now that he reaction was the he meant it but was still amazed it came off.
Top man and I love him too. Would like to see Haynes with his pace playing off him, could be a good combination..
Haynes is a good option but would be a mistake to write off BWP. Remember, everything he touched came off at the start of the season, why do people think he can't regain that?
Let's not have a short memory on BWP, I know you have to move onwards and upwards, but if we didn't sign him when we did, the likely hood is that we may have got relegated that season.
Sat with BWP and he was saying how Championship isn't tougher than league one, he'll get battered around less and he has good form in Championship, hopefully regain that.
Also said Solly deserved his POTY and really has trouble taking it around him in training.
Personally I never thought anything other than he totally meant it. it was late on to start running around goal celebrating, so Yann celebrated with French insouciance which simply added to the glory of it all. Plus I said on some recent match preview threads that we had yet to see our goal of the season, we have seen it now :-)
They wouldn't be brilliant goals if there was a 100% success rate. The import thing is the intent though - that is wahat seperates a great goal from a fluke. Now we have established that he meant it - it has to go down as a truly great goal. The fact so many people doubt he meant it only proves what a great goal it was.
Compared to van Basten on Late Kick-off last night.
From his immediate reaction just below us, I thought he didn't mean it - looked very surprised and almost embarrassed, but perhaps as Tangoflash says, that's becasue it did come off. If he says he meant it, I'll believe him!!

Sometimes they go in and sometimes they don't.
But half the brilliant world class goals that people drool over are 'hit and hope' , that actually come off ......another time it'll be Row Z.
I'll give Yann credit for great technique and a sublime finish.

Maybe, but it a bit difficult to tell from this angle.
