I was actually trying to defuse the situation. the main reason I’m going is because i want to see it. No harm there. i doubt my presences will cause to much havoc to the city of london. I'm not exactly supporting it because i am more of a fan of protests that are first non-violent and second are more designed to help people. I know what is going to be present at the march and i know there will be protests for human rights. one subject I do feel strongly about. i usually follow amnesty international and have gone on several protests and have done lobbying for that particular group. Never say i have no idea. I’m not exactly a socialist but i do have to agree with the unfair weight of power and money that only a few have. I'm also not much of a fan of austerity measures. like i said i don’t believe the ones in london will make much difference however the solidarity to those in other countries where the ones in charge have blown it is something i do support. And to any that believe that protesting against why we are in a recession due to poor decisions and selfish actions is a terrible thing to do, I disagree.
my original post was purely just asking if anybody else was going. the thread has become more of an attack on me for just being there. I do hope that north london addick will see his sons game, i do hope that little interference will come to any of you.
What happened to the traditional May day celebrations, dancing round the May pole, Morris dancers prancing about, this is a real tradition dating back over a 1000 years, protest and politics should be put aside for this wonderful day of the year.
Anyway the protest march will be cancelled as its raining and there a danger that some of the great unwashed of the Marxist movement might accidentally get cleansed by the rain Have a great day whatever you decide to do.
Moaning about the Olympics has itself become a sport lately but I have never heard the argument that they are a bad thing because they are too popular and lots of people are going to attend.
What to do : get caught up in some nonsense orchestrated by the Loony Left or be forced to endure commentary on it from the Raving Right ?think for me it will just be business as usual.
Sorry Karim, Ambulance Crews are "non violent and try to help people" the idea of a peaceful protest march is an ideal as opposed to a reality these days, there are just too many people who go along for a ruck, a minority granted, but enough to make it veer away from its original concept. I get fed up with seeing smirking twats smashing windows or defacing memorials to the working man and then if held by the police or god forbid pushed aside in a kettling claim human rights and aggression. Nothing against you personally, I would always defend the right to protest, its the actual protesting bit I find a bit tedious. Surely, like a pitch invasion a protest should be a spontanious reaction to a specific event to be of a value, May day seems like an annual invitational to have a collective whinge regardless of the state of the world.
The last protest I came into contact with was some student/anti-war/teacher demo early November last year. As they came down Garrick Street I stood & watched as hundreds and hundreds of young, open minded people used their democratic right to protest & voice their concerns.
& barely a single one had a poppy on. They make me sick.
Personally i would put the soilders on the street today who have lost mates in their regiment.Lost limbs fighting for the soap dodgers to have their day today. Lets see how hard they would be then.
