@RichCawleySLP: #cafc spent £2m less on wages than Huddersfield this season - and £1m less than both Sheffield clubs.

  • interesting ... wonder if any players up for wage increase due to promotion?

    I would think almost certainly
  • I'm really not convinced by all these thrifty soundbytes that have been put out over the last twelve months.

I think we were much more financially competitive and with a higher wage bill than what has Bern suggested.
  • Tally's with what Powelly said last year

agreed , or did they all come to wonderful Charlton to help Sir Chris learn his trade
  • Remember Ched Evans was probably at least £1m a year difference to our comparative striker....

and that was just the fee Shef U tried to pay in hush money to young girls!
  • I would hazard a guess that our wage bill was less last season than the season before
  • @Brunello would you include or exclude signing on fees and performance bonuses as part of the wage bill ?

Didn't realise Huddersfield were spending quite so much on wages.

  • perhaps our strategy is mainly younger players who havent peaked wages wise yet, and example being Semedo?

Well you are not comparing apples with apples. If two seasons ago we had won the division I estimate our wages plus bonuses would have been higher. Last season our normal wage bill would have been less or maybe the same but obviously bonuses have been paid which would make the figure higher. I dont believe signing on fees would have been any more than the loyalty (sic) bonuses that would have been paid before.

Reading that back even I dont understand it!
  • Hmmm. At the risk of opening an old can of worms, I've got just four words;

    Rich.
    Cawley.
    Pinch.
    Salt.
  • TAKE THAT BACK!
  • @Brunello would you include or exclude signing on fees and performance bonuses as part of the wage bill ?
Personally I wouldn’t be surprised if our newly signed players have been signed on not spectacular wages but with large bonuses upon promotion and maybe even a wage rise. It would have been a good insurance policy for the club if things went wrong but a big incentive for the players to perform. So I'd imagine any such bonuses are not included in the figures given.
  • Speculation that our speculated wage bill is lower than the speculated wage bills of rival teams. Interesting.
  • Huddersfield's wage bill was significantly higher than Leeds. Twelve Terrier players were earning more than the top earner at Elland Road.
