Watching Leicester & Wet Spam last night.

edited April 2012 in General Charlton
For me it felt a little strange....as though I was watching two teams from a league we are actually in (as indeed we are) and that the result had some impact on us (which indeed it will)...curious but never-the -less true....I'm pleased to say it felt quite nice and significantly added to the interest of the result.

  • yeah and they appeared to be playing a different , stronger , faster version of the football we've been watching for a few years

  • If that was Leicesters usual performance than are current squad would beat them, West Ham did look a league above us on that showing. I have also watched Millwall v Derby a boring 0-0 draw and from seeing these games I believe are current squad would be competative with teams in the lower half of the championship.
  • west ham were excellent. must be so frustrating for the fans watching them play so well away and then be so inconsistant at home. would'nt fancy our chances next season against the better teams in the division but as long as we improve every year via evoulution or a another chris powell revoulution thats fine by me.

Know what you mean. Not sure about they are much better then us but from the few games I've seen there seem to be a lot of sides made up of 10 Leon Corts and 1 tricky winger/striker. (and that is not slating Cort).

  • watched the birmingham west ham game recently and no doubt they are a class above us ... at the moment ... but with squad strengthening during the close season and our great manager, who knows :-)

Taking on board the concerns, on the positive side, I think there may be more time on the ball in the Championship. Or am I clutching at straws?
  • About the same I'd say.
  • Typically the higher the league the more time you get on the ball, so that would make sense. Of course the defences should be better organised/positioned, so you may have more time, but you'll usually have fewer options.
  • Doubt if teams will play 451 against us as often as they did this season so maybe more space but then again faster fitter players closing down quicker

    Makes sense I guess.

  • As said in other threads. Our current squad is in my opinion bottom third Championship quality. If we want better than that then we need five in who could be first choice straight away.
  • I think there will be cast offs from both these sides in the summer for different reasons - did any players catch the eye, particularly with our strong links to both clubs?
  • It's not a great example, but I played for Meopham a couple of years ago. Because of certain events the previous summer, the reserves were the stronger team, the first team often short, and made up of whoever could be rounded up, plus volunteers from the reserves. About half way through the season I switched from the reserves, primarily as it pretty much guaranteed my 90 mins every week and in my favoured position. Even switching divisions in the Gravesend league the more time on the ball was noticeable. Where playing CB/LB for the reserves I was often rushed, going up a division and moving to CM I found more time on the ball, just wish the patched together team around me knew what their jobs were!
