  • Yes, they've taken a few of my well-earned pounds - would be a shame to see them go, especially if they're not replaced.
  • paddy power moving in -- I wonder?
  • think it will be coral. which for me would be handy as i rarely get paid out on matchdays if i win and am closer to coral stores than ladbrookes
  • I'm sure there is an obvious answer to this that I am not aware of but could I ask why people on here don't use something like Betfair? They always seem to have the best odds as they are a betting exchange and just take a minor commission. I will put a bet on a score on there for example, then take a peek at the Ladbrookes on the way in and find the odds laughable in comparison...
  • Laddies and Corals are both changing their strategy re betting at football grounds and are letting agreements lapse and not renewing.

This is something that seems to be going more towards local/smaller bookmakers rather than national chains.

I'm sure there will be betting facilities at The Valley next season.
  • Surely the Internet will Hoover up all the business in time. With smart phones and an account already set up you can bet from your seat in the ground? Sooner or later the small bookies offices in the ground that, presumably, requires two staff in each (of at least three) stands, will become too expensive!
  • Always bet on my iPhone on Betfair instead of Ladbrokes inflated odds in the ground.

    this

it can only be that people are too lazy or not computer literate to use betfair
  • Betfair is to bookmaking, as Sky TV is to football......

Great on the face of it, giving the customers what they want, but incredibly powerful and with huge influence over something that was going along nicely before they even existed.

Ladbrokes pay Charlton directly for the opportunity to bet in the ground - Betfair does not, and there is nothing like the feeling of crisp tenners as you walk away from the ground with a win and the 3 points!
  • Online betting is clearly taking a large market share, but I still think there's great value in having the booths in the ground.
Even before considering those with no inclination or ability to bet online, I'm sure a lot of people just like to have a quick punt once they get to the ground simply because they see the signs and fancy something.
Also, when betting on first goalscorer etc, it's worth knowing who's actually playing so some would hold off for that reason and if people are planning on betting online from their phones, the internet access in the ground can be a bit iffy, so it's surely got to be worth providing the service?
