John Sullivan ....now that we are Champions

Think it would be nice if at half-time in the Hartlepool game Ben Hamer was substituted and John Sullivan allowed to play the second half.

As a young goalkeeper presumably desperate to play, it can't have been easy for him to sit on the bench for every league game this season knowing he had little chance of playing unless Hamer got injured or suffered a huge loss of form. But to do it without, as far as I know, ever complaining in public is real loyalty. And indeed, not only has he not complained, he seems to have a good bond with Ben Hamer.

Such loyalty deserves to be rewarded. And I think would be a nice touch to let John Sullivan have a few minutes of glory this year.

  • Not sure about having a planned substitution. Bring him on with twenty mins to go if we haven't used any subs and winning comfortably.

    OR

Play him from the start against Preston. We want to win on the last day.
  • 80th minute 3-0 up.
I want 100+ points. I do agree, it would be a nice gesture
  • Or we could be more experimental, seeing as we're guaranteed to go up as champions.
How about we don't have a substitute goalkeeper for the next 2 games. Put someone like Hayes on the bench instead.
  • Like to see the Hartlepool game used to show appreaciation to a few i.e sub Kerms, Solly with 10 minutes to go.

I reckon a few might get a run out vs Preston.
  • Hayes has played his part this season, if Powell wants to play him then he can put him in ahead of Haynes for one game. Don't need to sacrifice a keeper.
  • Leave the team as it is. We have had the perfect season lets see it through.
  • Never take your foot off the gas. We need to drive for the line and finish season strongly. Any change in momentum can work against us. Strongest team please SCP.
  • Those of us going to Preston would quite like to win there too!
  • why not start him against Hartlepool ( if we win against Preston) ans take him off at ht and let hamer finish the season in goal
  • Stick him up front and give Solly a go in goal?

  • Agree, also like to see Hayes, Taylor and Evina start and kids on the bench but full strength for last match.
  • He didn't sit on the bench for every league game. He came on at Bournemouth
  • Play the best possible, it's about momentum now, and 100 points
  • Don't fancy watching our reserves against Preston considering I've forked out!
  • Didn't he play the majority of the match away at Orient aswell when Hamer got sent off?
  • We have an additional 10,000 Addicks (or potential Addicks) at the Heartlepool game. We want the to come back. Play our best team, put on a show and they just might.

I don't agree that a substitute goal keeper not kicking off publicly that he's being kept out of the side by a strong incumbent is "real loyalty".

Great point, a really strong, exciting performance in the last day sunshine and a 4-0 win with the strongest side out might persuade a couple of hundred to take up season tickets.

It would be a real shame to put out a half strength side and end the season with a 1-0 home loss and a real anti-climax.

I would love us to get 103 points, it would be an amazing achievement.

  • Stay proffessonal until the very end, no room for sentiment, lets break the points record and finish in style.
The whole squad have played their part this season, it is not just about the 11/14 who play every week but unfortunatly only 11 can play at anyone time and Hamer has made the shirt his own.
  • Id rather the youth get a run out, than players who could well be off in the summer
  • Well I think we should put out our best team.

The team that played on Saturday are all contracted players not loanees (I think).

I would start with them and then have on the bench players who have played already and who will likely be here for the long term so:

    Sullivan
Hollands (assuming he's not still suspended)
    Green if he's fit
    Taylor
    Haynes

  • Put on our best team of course......but with ten minutes to go 'providing' we are in a comfortable lead....(though with us what is a comfortble lead?) bring on a few subs.....Sullivan being one of them.
  • Would play Sullivan in the second half against Hartlepool, unlike other fringe players, Sullivan's inclusion should not weaken us at all. Hamer in an excellent keeper, but Sullivan is hardly a calamity and has generally looked very capable in the games he has played for us.

He has sat on the bench all season and covered Hamer very well, also seems a good character. Deserves a run out.

  • I would only say that the last day when we won the old Division 1 to get up to the prem, was a total dampner as the team were already on holiday and Ipswich came to the valley and won 3-1.... really rather not go there again. Strong starting line up with maybe 1 or 2 fringe players on the bench.
  • There are season tickets to be sold, and 26,000 potential customers against Hartlepool
