Nice words from Andy Townsend...

edited April 2012 in General Charlton
...in his column in the Mail

It's not hard to spot the family resemblence is it ? Even the hairs the same. I'm looking forward to taking my dad, Don, to The Valley next season season to watch Charlton Athletic play Championship football.

He's 82 and was a regular at left back for the Addicks in the 50s and 60s, back when they used to get crowds of 60-70,000 every week.

We are delighted they got promoted. Chris Powell has done an amazing job, he brought in 14 players at the start of the season so he's been working with almost a completely New squad.

What an achievement. And he won't have to make many alterations to compete in the Championship. He's got a great squad already.

  • 14 players, it was 18. Get your facts right Andy, lazy journalism, tories, labour, the EU, immigration, blah blah blah.

  • Plastic glory-hunter - where was he the last three years? ;-)
  • 60-70,000 every week?
  • I've always liked AT, I think he comes across as one of the more thoughtful pundits.
  • Doesn't he fight out of Welling?
  • Can't stand the bloke!

Due to the terraces (if I am right). My Grandma was telling me a few years back.
  • Good to hear Don is still going strong. Very nice guy.

He came to the club as a centre forward and was converted to left back by a certain Mr. Seed.
  • ...as for the number of players brought in, well everybody plucks a number out of the air, even SCP I reckon.

  • Andy is a real gentleman (like his dad) and a thoroughly nice guy..... a great pundit too....known him for donkeys years, since he was a lad of about 16.
    Can't stand the bloke!
    Why?

  • Remember when he was at Welling seeing him play snooker locally - very good player
  • inter fico or was it inter fica played a year up with foleys boy adrian who was a diamond
  • Played alongside Adrian's brother,Paul,in Sunday League. Very funny young man and the best centre-half I ever played with and that includes Phil Coleman who went on to play for Millwall.

Ever since he did The Premiership with his Tactics Truck. Really rubbed me up the wrong way. Plus Irish, about as Irish as Clinton Morrison! Great Pundit?? Couldn't disagree more.
