A good & accurate analysis of our season. I am one of those boring fans who'd rather watch dire but winning football than exciting losing stuff. I want excitement, flair and trickery ?, I watch skysports where the stars on 200 grand a week are there to entertain the masses.
As the article points out it has been the defence that has taken us up.
Disagree with this. They've all played their part, and I think Hollands and YK in particular would feel greatly aggrieved if all those clean sheets were attributed solely to the back 4 (5).
Sometimes stats don't tell the whole story, but I think this article is pretty accurate in highlighting the way our back 5 has performed this year. Our defence has been the foundation that most of our performances have been built on this season.

Sure, they have all played their part but for me the failings of the two previous seasons were down to the poor defence and in particular the CHs. The solid base this year made it possible to win 1 - 0 rather than lose 2- 1.
But all the team help defend so yes Hollands, Yann and the others deserve credit.
A properly thought out article, unlike the poorly researched Mirror one. WE all know that all the members of the squad who have played have been vital to our success this this season but the defensive figures surely are prominent in any analysis of our promotion.
Now just three more wins with clean sheets and I'll be pleased!!!!
It's great to see an article that casts the club in a complimentary light...it's been too long! People are obviously starting to take notice of this nice little family club again!
Not a slap-dash job either. They obviously spent some time putting that together.
I think Morrison, Wiggins, Solly and Jacko (maybe Hollands) are the only players likely to get in the team of the year... although if they banish Ched Evans from the reckoning after today then Kerm / BWP could be in with a shout!
I agree with you Offy. I don't even think that the opening sentences do us justice, "When Bradley Wright-Phillips bundled home a corner from less than a yard out to clinch promotion for Charlton at Brunton Park on Saturday, it was a moment that was symbolic of their season on many levels. The goal itself was unspectacular..."
Sure that goal was very close range but it wasn't just "bundled over" as the article says. It was a pinpoint cross onto Stephens' head who nodded it down exactly onto Bradley's toe. That was a goal that had been thought about and planned, it wasn't just "bundled over".
Hmmm ............ is it just me or does that article make us sound a bit ........... i dunno .......... boring?
"Charlton’s performances haven’t stood out from the crowd as much as their results." I think that does us a great disservice actually.
Not bothered though - at least the guy knows who we are!
I actually think he's got it spot on to be fair. We've not been beating teams with pulsating football week in week out. We've done what was needed with brilliant team spirit/effort/never say die attitude and one hell of a defence. Yes we had talent in there as well but I think he's right that our performances haven't always been great.

Cheers. Now can you come up with one of your masterpieces on the "Olly" thread that's Zulu related? ;o)

Agree with Henry's point. A good midfield and hard work from other parts of the team ensures that a defence holds out.
