Fans told 'Stay off the pitch!!!'

http://www.cafc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10267~2739701,00.html

Pretty gutted about this... Surely there'll be a pitch invasion if we win the league at home against Wycombe or Hartlepool???

  • Really can't see how the club can possibly be fined for the pitch invasion at Carlisle. CAFC have no control over what goes on in someone elses ground. If anything, it should be Carlisle getting fined for not controlling 100 or so people (not that I think they should get fined btw)
  • they are joking valley dreams
  • The funny thing at Carlisle was the groundsman with the small ladder who ended up in a shoving match with his own stewards as he tried to do his job.
  • openinng a can of worms
  • "We have been asked to explain what happened by the FA."

I would have thought that was fairly obvious. We got promoted, the fans got excited, and some of them entered the pitch to celebrate. But I suppose the passionless idiots at the FA probably wouldn't understand that.

"The authorities have also asked us to identify all those supporters who came on the pitch, which we are declining to do because we don't believe that it is appropriate."

Good on you, and well done for publicly stating this, regardless of potential sanctions. This sort of thing is what makes Charlton a special club. As an aside, I wonder if they'll be asking Reading the same question?

In light of the above, I really hope that the fans reciprocate the respect shown by the club by respecting their request to stay off the pitch for the final 3 games.

In my opinion, entering the pitch in the spur of the moment to celebrate a significant moment in the club's history which has been a long time coming is understandable, and forgivable. However, 'planning' a pitch invasion on the last day of the season, when *chicken-counting mode* the Championship has already been decided, smacks a bit of plastic 'fans' wanting their 5 mins of fame, regardless of the implications for the club.
  • will takesome stick for this

    That's a nail-on-the-head post!

WE are not deciding, the club is and it's their perogative not yours or anyone elses.

  • They can identify me all they want

i would do the same thing again if the situation arose

its called pure passion and excitement

  • so the club have two sets of rules then
  • Ridiculous really.

Am I the only one who doesn't believe the FA when they say they would fine the club for a pitch invasion?

A lot of teams who finish midtable will have a pitch invasion at the end of the season, they don't all get fined for it!
  • "regardless of the venue, fans should not be entering the pitch at any stage, and the club WILL take action against anyone who does"

but only when we want to
  • Ridiculous really.

how do you know they don't?

Because many of the smaller clubs would ensure full well that there wouldn't be a wide scale pitch invasion because they wouldn't be able to afford the fine. There usually seems little effort to prevent it from happening.
  • If the FA want fans banned for pitch invasions, don't think there will be many watching Reading at home next season!
  • Clb74 why do you just grass everyone up if your so worried about it? Just get over it... I'd go on everytime if the same situation arose I spent nearly 200 quid on travel, tickets match day and think me and everyone that went on the pitch or choose not to deserved it. End of
  • whats grassing got to do with it?
so someone who comes up from devon every home game and spend hundreds deserves to go on the pitch against hartlepool then
  • We all have different views on this situation, let's just enjoy the moment as fans and save the handbags for next season!

Being promoted doesn't always happen that often for clubs so it could be that they're not aware of an impending rush onto the field? maybe the smaller clubs wouldn't have experience of dealing with wide scale pitch invations and therefore maybe not want to pay the extra money to get stewards/police to prevent it?

There were loads of stewards at Derby away the other year, and they couldn't stop it, it turned from celebration into goading us lot and there was a thick line of stewards and police holding them back.

I'm not saying that they definately fine everyone, but i just think because we dont know about these fines doesn't mean they dont happen or that the FA dont send the letters to other clubs. I dont think we should feel that we've been singled out.

Reading 1 Notts Forest 0. Go to about 2 mins 20 seconds in. Reading are promoted back to the premiership. Very big pitch invasion. Lets see whether the FA are going to demand Reading to name all those on the pitch and threaten disciplinary action.
  • @nla they can identify me if they want.

They don't know who the feck you are you only started going this year in March. Johnny come lately
  • Spouts off on here and everyone thinks he's aregular
  • If you want to go on the pitch clb74 then go on ! It's entirely up to the person at the time you couldn't tell me that if it went down to the last game then people wouldn't go on the pitch if you think they wouldn't your deluded
