I have had 4 rather different experiences:
In 1981 I was supposed to be playing cricket but it got called off around lunchtime. After some brief speculations it became apparent that chartering a plane from Biggin Hill was not going to be an option. I can't actually remember having the radio on - I assume I must have done - but basically it was an afternoon spent at home watching the teletext and eventually just waiting for the screen to confirm the result I wanted.
In 1986 I had to go to a Ruby Wedding celebration in Wakefield. But I spent the Friday night with my mother in Leeds, drove across the M62 and left my car on the M6 somewhere (well, in a service area) and was chauffeured from the to Carlisle and back. All very comfortable except for the first 40 minutes of the game.
2000 was the longest day of my life. Apart from having to drive from Orpington to Brasted I was driven to and from Wembley yet I think I can honestly say I have never been more exhausted in my life - and that includes a couple of London marathons.
Yesterday I had left it too late - my head kept telling me it wasn't going to happen - so by the time I started to look for flights (around Wednesday) it was too late to get all the other practicalities in place. As a result I ended up with CAFC Player streaming on the TV together with the live scores whilst I bashed away on my F5 key following RM's matchday thread, and in fact I also ended up with commentary on the U's - Wendies game on that.
It's clear what the best option is - and more fool me for not having the faith to investigate it earlier - what what's the worst way you can experience it? It staggers me to read of people who've been told about it by others by phone or text message. For 2 hours yesterday I was a total nervous wreck and attempting to do anything other than follow the actual would have been a complete waste of effort.
Haha I just realised I completely forget 2000. Probably because I can't actually remember what I was doing, but it was a huge anticlimax

This season was different & I had only missed a couple of away games and had even started taking my 8 yr old to away games - so much so that I had promised him that he would be there when we got promoted.
Howver, I spent all afternoon with my 8yr old son watching SSN and cursing the fact that on Thursday lunchtime I had gone down to The Valley to hand back 3 tickets for the game as someone who will remain nameless (LargeAddick) decided the petol costs would be too much !!!
At least Large has had the decency to applogise & promised to make it up to my son..........& he'd better !!
Still gutted !!!!!!!!!!1
That's a major disappointment, Golfie. I won't comment more since I don't know the ins and outs.
