I found this clip http://www.britishpathe.com/video/more-scenes-of-qpr-v-sheffield-united It is a fascinating footage of a Valley that few of us will recall, if any. No Covered End, what looks like only a half concreted East Terrace. Stick with it as almost the whole news reel is of The Valley from many different angles.

Well I enjoyed it. I wonder if the club could put together a compilation of these clips for a dvd? With hindsite, it would have been nice for our centenary.

I think that the end was covered in 1937

This was the FA cup tie where a wall behind the goal gave way injuring a number of fans. I think the clip shows a little of the aftermath.

That was no doubt the FA Cup run where 'plucky little Charlton' just 2 seasons a League club (in Third Division South), took on the might of then Top Tier giants Bolton Wanderers.

You are right, this could be the tidied up clip shown to the public perhaps? You can clearly see the wall collapse. http://www.britishpathe.com/video/fight-for-the-cup-charlton-v-bolton-wanderers However, I think the original link posted is of more interest as it shows much more of the Valley.

It says that it is from 1936 and the Covered End is there so, my understanding that it was built in 1937 looks to be wrong.

The Covered End was built prior to our first season in division one, 1936/7, I believe probably during the close season.

Love the bit on 2.20 when you see the referee in his blazer. I thought he was smoking a fag at first, but he was just chewing on his whistle.

According to Home and Away with Charlton Athletic by Colin Cameron, the Covered End opened on March 30th 1934.
