Out of all the players that we have had over the 5 years we been away from the prem, would any get into this current charlton matchday squad in your opinion? What would be your 16? I'll give you mine.

Although many of the teams over the past five years havent been great as a collective, there have been some strong individual players:

Matt Holland, Darren Ambrose, Zheng Zhi, Nathan Ecclestone are all good enough to be in that first eleven I've put but I've based it mainly on performances.

It's hard to judge, as we're in a lower division. Is Solly better than Richardson, Wiggins better than Youga, Kermorgant better than Iwelemu or Burton? Wagstaff, Green or Sam? Ambrose, ZZ, Bailey or Hollands? JJ, Thomas or Andy Reid? McCarthy, Dailly or Morrison?

Indeed, Holland or Hollands is a tough one. One at the end of his career, but who's played in a world cup, against another who gets stuck in more and may improve, but has only shone at a lower level.

Personally I think your side is biased towards this season's players. I can understand it as we have had a much better season, but I'm not convinces that they would have out performed other players when we take into account the opposition.

Off the top of my head, of those that you didn't include, I would have been looking at ZZ, Shelvey, Bougherra, Chris Powell, Iwelumo, Varney, Ambrose, Holland! Todorov, Youga, Richardson, Lloyd Sam.

I'm not saying they would all have made my 16, but I think they all would give mos of the current squad a decent fit for their place in the team.

I know there is a bias towards those that played in th Championship in 2007, but with a bit more luck, and a few less loans we could have got promoted that season, and for that reason I suspect that those players were good enough to displace some of our surrender squad.

Hopefully next season the current players will prove me wrong by winning a second promotion in two years.

Most of that 2007/08 squad have top flight experience, and indeed international experience, either before they joined us or afterwards, so on paper they ought to be better than our current team even if they drastically underperformed in our colours...

Another thing that makes it so hard is that we have had so many bloody players in the past five years!
