Hollands red not appealed

edited April 2012 in General Charlton
So be it. He probably needs a rest actually, but we'd have all preferred him to slog on for a bit.

But we've got enough quality generally, and I don't think we've been winning games because we're unbeatable in central midfield. Time for Jacko to stand up?

  • I'm surprised at that. On the radio they kept saying it was a definite red, but on the highlights it's clearly a one-footed challenge that's slightly late.
Still, as you say, we should have enough strength in depth to cope with this.
  • They only usually rescind red cards if there is no way in hell that it was a red (eg - someone dived, mistaken identity). The Hollands tackle wasn't but they would argue that there was probably enough there for the ref to interpret it as dangerous.

I'm not at all surprised tbh. Only evidence would be the Sky footage and that showed nothing one way or the other.
  • At least its his only red so out for three and available for last couple of matches, celebrating (hopefully) promotion when he is playing which is what he deserves.
  • I'll be surprised if we haven't won promotion by the time he is back.
  • I'd like to see Andy Hughes back in the squad.
  • Of the 3 games, the home games vs Walsall and Wycombe are winnable, the away game at Carlisle is the tough one. He'll be back for Preston. Incidentally, Russell will be available for Wycombe, but then can't play against Preston.

Quite a few on here have questioned his pairing with Stephens who adapted well to a more defensive role on Saturday after Hollands was sent off. He has been ever present this season and one of the first names (along with Morro and Wiggins) SCP puts on the team sheet who rates him highly enough to have handed him the Captain's armband albeit in the absence of JJ and Taylor. He will be missed but now Stephens and whoever is selected and I think SCP will go with Pritchard's energy this afternoon, has the chance to step up to plate and prove to his doubters that he has more to his game than being just a tidy player in front of the back four and I for one will be giving him my full support.
  • Would have been a bigger blow if this suspension came 3 games earlier, fortuntley we're nearly over the line for promotion.
