Really enjoyed tonight! Thanks to everyone who organised it and especially to the special guests. Loved the stories from Eddie, Brighty and Sasa, they brought back many great memories.
Right this is what I can remember. All three spoke highly about Curbs, he was fair and would give you a chance, but just don't cross him.
The team of 98 had such a togetherness, a real fighting spirit amongst them. Talked about the pens, Eddie was next if Gray had scored. Sasa was determined to save one, when it came to Gray penalty he decided to go that way by using a 2p coin -heads right, tails left.
Mark Bright reminded Eddie of what he had said to him in the tunnel, tapped him on the shoulder and said enjoy the day, take it all in. Eddie was so pumped up, that Btighty's words calmed him down. Yes MB deliberately fouled keeper when Rufus scored, they couldn't shut him up after that, kept on advising everyone of how to score a goal, even though it was his first.
Brighty was speaking to Kevin Phillips in the tunnel, told him that Sasa would save one, Phillips said Perez wouldn't as they didn't trust him.
Spoke about Robbo how he was mad! Constantly moaning at the officials etc made him look as if he was working harder, they all laughed at that.
Clive was the best all round striker and should have gone on, he had an opportunity to retire and get a huge payout, but he chose to fight on got injured again and didn't get that payout.
Neil Heaney was capable of looking after himself, Taricco had grabbed him so Heaney dumped him on his behind. Ipswich wanted to call in Police, Curbs said lets see the video and it was clear that the fiery Argentinian had started it.
some great tales about the Dublin tour, Eddie escaping from the hotel only to find himself knocking on Curbs door at 4am. Anthony Barness went missing that night only turning up at the airport just in time. Players were in hysterics as there was a giant purple dinosaur in a poster behind him when he has apologising to Curbs. Barney's great adventure! the Christmas parties when Shaun Newton tried to table surf and it ended up with the whole team getting chucked out.
They said current team has the same spirit. That Chris Powell will go on to greater things, hopefully with us. They doubt that Curbs will ever get a job again after he sued West Ham. he turned down Wolves as they really didn't want him. He almost had Villa job but Houllier came from nowhere.
A truly brilliant evening, we could have gone on for hours.
Sounds brilliant. Glad it was a great night. BDL, If @CharltonLive ever get Keith Jones over from America, Please book him from, at the latest, 5pm if meeting in a pub/club. Spent one of the best evenings of my life with Keith at a Lewisham CASC meeting, and the guv'nor actually had to throw us out at 11-45pm.
Was a great night, shame you guys couldn't have made it. There was so much more.
On Scott Parker, they all said how he hated tackling and how he used to moan at Brighty for shouting at him. Sending him on loan to Norwich made him.
Brighty spoke about Jermaine Defoe, how good he was and how his mother was he one who lead him astray, shall we say! Charlton weren't big enough for her boy.
The whole team gelled so well apart from one player who nobody really liked, they respected him but he wasn't popular.
They all spoke highly about Peter Reid, saying he was an honest guy. He'd accused Brighty of injuring one of their centre halves in the match at the Valley, Brighty hadn't and was amazed when Reid let rip at him during the match. He said that Reid came up to him in the tunnel before the match and apologised to him.

Thanks to all who attended, even Olly!
One of the things I'll remember for some time was how close knit a unit they were back in '98 which mirriors what we feel about the current squad.
Thanks must also go to BDL and to Bernard Wickham for the part they played in tonight's success.
We must do it again sometime !
I can now say I've met the legend that is Olly
Good luck with the swim Eddie!

He was out on Sat Night/Sunday morning with a bunch of footballers who had just won promotion!
Now I'm wondering who the player that no-one liked was...hmm.....I could guess, but I bet I'd be wrong!
Cheers Henry.
Not saying that he's wrong, mind you....
Paul Elliot forgot about us for years until recently as well
