Official Preview: Scunthorpe United (Away) 17th March 3pm Glanford Park

Scunthorpe United, just typing the name brings a school boy grin to your face.. Well after we all thought we had our ‘wobble’ with draws at home to Bury and Rochdale, we seem now to be coming to crunch time. After one of the worst first half displays seen for many a year in SE7 against a rejuvenated Notts County and a defeat to our friends from Essex we find ourselves in the unusual position of not having chalked up even a point since Yann’s last minute winner against the Cherries.

Even more worrying is the conceding of 6 goals, a team that prides itself on its magnificent defensive record, the once solid unit of Taylor and Morrison have shown cracks and as for the goal keeping situation, it’s clear that Ben Hamer has not quite been at the races since coming off at dean court.

Scunthorpe are currently lying in 19th place in the league and not really having the season they would have hoped for, the recent loan signing of the ‘Beast’ Jon Parkin has been inspired and seen the Iron go on a run of 4 games without loss, in which they have scored 8 goals with Parkin bagging 4 of them. Chris Powell will be more than aware of the threat that Parkin brings have spent time with him whilst at Leicester.

Back in August we ran away to a 2 nil lead with goals from BWP and JJ only for Scunthorpe to hit back late on with a brace from Bobby Grant including the equalizer deep into stoppage time. We then went on a run that was only ended by the mugging we received at Stevenage.

Without a midweek game for the first time in a few weeks Chris Powell has had all week, bar an evening being harassed and questioned by the Bromley addicks and AFKA... to get the lads back together, work on the errors we made against County and generally gee them all up for the all-important run in we now face.

So do we panic? Make changes or keep faith in the lads who with 10 games to go have us 10 points clear and a plus goal difference that would only usually be achieved by Charlton on the beginner setting of fifa 2012. Do we switch tactics after for so long and revert back to 5 man midfield? No I don’t think we will, Powell has faith in the boys and he knows that by making rash decisions could harm us, so with the exception of maybe Haynes who limped off after 14 mins on Saturday I would expect to see a pretty solid familiar looking addicks side take to the field.

On a lighter note congrats to JJ and Bradley for being in the top 10 league one players of the year, all though how we didn’t have a few more on there is beyond me but what do I know, I’m just the bloke who does the pictures (as described by mog, when meeting new lifers)
So over to you guys and girls, Predicted starting line-up and scores and all the other general banter we like to indulge ourselves in before kick off.

Come on you rip roaring goal scoring Addicks!!

  • apart from the lack of Capitals in places and minor punctuation errors very good Adam ;-)
  • Back to winning ways. 2-0 addicks, BWP and Jackson
  • Sorry but I cannot see an away win here so I am going 2-1 Scunthorpe.
  • 1-1 Coming from behind Bwp to get the equalizer
  • Wagstaff to start on the right with Green on the bench, otherwise the same team and a 2-2 draw
  • So long as no-one gets sent of in the first twenty minutes we'll win this one, probably by a single goal.
  • 1-1 and the worrying building up
  • Nice one Ad.

Back to winning ways. It has to for two reasons:
    1. I don't think I can take the panic that will be caused on here by losing again.
    3. I sit opposite a Scunny fan at work.

    Come on you reds !
  • 1-1
we'll go one up against the run of play in the first half, they'l equalise mid second half, we'll dominate the last 20/25 mins but it won't be quite enough. Kermorgant to score.

    Nice piece Adam.

Just stopping the rot would be good firstly. Secondly, as I often say, a point away from home is good anything better great.

I hope he recognises Waggy's efforts on Saturday by giving him a start.

  • I'd like a reaction from the last couple of games, and I'm sure SCP will want one too. 2-0 to the Addicks...BWP and Waggy on the scoresheet again.

10 games left...10 wins. This is entirely possible. Let's do it, let's show all those doubters out there that we can finish this season off exactly how we started it, by giving this league a bloody good seeing to. COYR!!!
  • Think we are on the traditional CAFC end of season fun bus ride to squeaky bumsville... Home win to "one C&*^ in Scunthorpe". Not to be confused with the last few seasons, the CAFC totally crap all season fun bus ride to contemplated suicideville...
  • If we score first 2-1 win. Of we concede first, 2-0 defeat.
  • Nice write up Adam. Hoping for a hard-fought 2-1 away win
  • Boring ground out win from a Yann free kick after Waggy is hacked down for the umptenth time. Defence stands firm.

    Enjoyed the write up, Adam.

Reckon we'll see a steely determination from the players to get a result here.
    Fancy we'll edge it.

    1-0
  • Parkin (a variety of delicious Yorkshire ginger cake) is perkin up Scunthorpe .. I'm hoping that our young team is not panicking .. away from home right now, we look a better bet. Two difficult games coming up against improving sides. I'm wishing, almost certainly in vain, that Hughes will be recalled alongside Hollands in central midfield. In any case: Scunthorpe United 1 v CAFC 1
  • Think the results depends on the team selected:
Draw if Stephens is replaced by Hughes/Russell/Pritchard.
Defeat is Stephens & Hollands is the central midfield partnership.
I think Powell should put one of Harriot/Sho-Silva/Azeez on the subs bench, as Haynes can't play.
  • Got a feeling Powell will have them fired up for this one after the notts game.

    3-1 addicks. Bwp,kerm,waggy
  • gonna have a bet on us winning by 3 or more goals.

    0-5

  • I'm assuming that our thoughts will be all about not conceding a goal, therefore I expect a low scoring game. 1-1 or 0-1, can't make up my mind.
  • Tough game but a 2 0 win for us BWP both goals.
  • Nice read Adam, you kept me reading until the end.
    0-1 to us.
  • I sit opposite a Scunny fan at work.
There can't be too many of those this side of Watford Dan?
  • I remember how impressive Scunthorpe were in that last 20 minutes at our place earlier in the season. Their form certainly means they havent kept that going, but they are more than capable: 1-1 BWP
  • Tight ground, tight game, tight 1-0 defeat all adding up to a tight arse by 5pm.
  • too scary for words, every team is the form team and hardest team in the world to beat when we play em at the moment

    1-1 and squeaky bum time
  • too scary for words, every team is the form team and hardest team in the world to beat when we play em at the moment

    1-1 and squeaky bum time
As in Yeovil next week as well, they are flying

I am still unbeaten on the road this season and expect this run to continue so panic ye not doom-mongers. Hard fought 1-0 to the addicks BWP.
  • I expect a few team changes either Saturday or Tuesday, most likely candidates to get a game each may be Cort/Taylor, Waggy/Green and Hollands/Russell. I think the mission on Saturday will be to not concede so a 0-0 draw would be my punt.
