Auction of Sparrows Lane Lunch & Directors Tickets - **FINISHES AT 5PM TODAY, BID NOW**

One of the points raised by Chris Powell at Tuesday's Bromley Addicks meeting was how beneficial it was for the players to travel, when practical, by train to northern away games. He said that this was an aspect of the players preparation that he and the other staff looked at very closely.

Chris told us that it was hoped that the squad would take the train up for the away game v Huddersfield. Subsequent to that meeting we have been in contact with the Chief Executive, Steve Kavanagh, and have agreed to cover the additional costs of the train trip from the funds we have been raising both at Bromley meetings and via the auctions on Charlton Life.

As a thank you for doing this and to help us re-coup some of the costs we have been offered some really special packages to auction on here.

We have four places to have lunch with Chris, his staff and all the players at the training ground before they depart for Huddersfield followed by a tour of Sparrows Lane. If you'd rather not go along on that specific day another time can be arranged.

We also have two directors box tickets for the game at Huddersfield where you will be looked after by Steve Kavanagh and Peter Varney. Again if that date doesn't suit you can have two tickets for another game although for some away games there are very limited places. You could also, if you prefer, have the tickets for a home game but some home games, such as Hartlepool, may not be possible.

So the auction is for the following

Lot A Two tickets for the lunch at the training ground on Friday 23 March or another date to be arranged with Chris Powell and the players Opening bid £50

Lot B Two further tickets for the lunch at the training ground Friday 23 March or another date to be arranged with Chris Powell and the players NB people are welcome to bid for both A & B if they wish Opening bid £50

Lot C Two directors box tickets for the away game at Huddersfield on March 24 or another game of your choice subject to availability. Opening bid £50

The auction closes next Monday at 5.00 pm. Please feel free to ask any questions either on this thread or via the in-box.

  • Do we need to sort our own travel to Huddersfield?

    A: £100
    B: £100
  • C. £100
  • C. £125
  • Speaking from experience as well, A & B are absolutely fantastic days out. You won't get anyone avoiding you or not wanting to speak. Unless Eccleston rejoins us.

What an absolutely brilliant initiative. Henry, I've had my criticisms of your attitude on this site at times over the years, but this is a magnificent example of how the relationship between club and supporters should work. Well done, and I wish I could have come last night to your meeting.

I can't go to Huddersfield because it's my eldest son's 35th birthday on the 24th and we've got tickets that evening for the English National Ballet (yes, I know - I think it was my daughter-in-law's choice rather than my son!). But I'd like to make him a present of lot C (for another game, obviously).

So I shall happily open the bidding for lot C (and will happily go higher if there are rival bids!)

  • IA, bidding for C is already at £125 but feel free to bid above that
  • A WSS £100
    B WSS £100

  • Sorry to drag the topic away from the actual bidding but could I ask for more details about the deal. I am confused as to why this money was paid when nothing like this has ever happened before. Was Chris saying that he prefered train travel over other methods of travel (plane/coach etc) or overnight stays? And is it therefore more expensive to go by train which is why they need the additional support?
Why does travel need supporting now when it hasn't in other years when I was under the impression that financial pressures were ever greater back then?
Sorry if this has been answered elswhere I just thought it really strange when I heard this had happpened.
