worrying trend

SCP needs to address the following:

2012 games League 1
Played 13, first half goals = 6
last 7 games, first half goals =1

I know we are miles in front, and wouldn't swop our situation with anyone, but if this trend repeats itself from last year, it could drain the players confidence as was shown on Saturday. If we constantly chase games we are going to get the outcome we suffered -v- County.

What one earth do they say to them at half time that can't be said befor the start? Maybe its adjustments that see an upturn, if so, maybe out scouting reports need to be a little more comprehensive.

What do you think?

  • with respect to other teams, they probably look at playing against the runaway leaders as a 'massive' game. Adrenaline pumping, and looking for a scalp, alot of teams are really up for it against us.

Once they get tired, more space becomes available and we start to open teams up, create chances and score goals.
  • ...fair point VG, but shouldn't we be overcoming pumped up, scalp hunting teams such as Rochdale, Bury in the first half at home? Maybe we should have a more attack minded formation for these teams turn up with this mindset. Take your point though!
  • Have you got something against Chris Powell ? No constructive criticism allowed

Perhaps, but we seem to get frustrated when we dont break teams down early and then that 50 yard diagonal to Yann comes out, and as seen against Colchester, that usually plays into the oppositions hands.

First 15/20 mins in that game, and the first ive seen for a while, we played some excellent stuff, ball into both strikers feet, movement was great and we created some chances. When we didnt take them, we got frustrated and reverted back to long ball tactics and created very little.

Whether that comes from SCP or a choice by the players i dont know.
  • to my mind what is worrying is that we still don't shoot from distance !! The only goals we have scored from outside the box have generally been free-kicks (JJ or Kermy) or the Dale stephens screamer against Bury when we had tried averthing else - in 2 successive home games Hamer has been beaten by shots from around 20-25yards but we just don't seen to try them.

Golf, you must be reading the programme every time Danny Green advances towards the box in a vaguely central position...

Or when the ball comes to Stephens from a corner.
