The OP is correct that "we have been know to fizzle out like a cheap sparkler towards the end of season", but there's no reason to link the two. This is a new team with a new manager. What's happened before is in the past. It's a bit like those match previews where they say Charlton haven't beaten xxxxx xxxx since 1934, and then you find out that the last time we played them was 1936. It's just not relevant to today.
New team, new manager. Except that the manager was a player in the 99/00 team that had a bit of a wobble!!
I wouldn't be too worried if the team had been playing well recently. But apart from Chesterfield, we haven't. We have relied upon being solid at the back and nicking a goal. Results have been excellent but performances have rarely been over convincing. We have also had an aura of invincibility which has now unfortunately been broken. Given what has happened in previous promotion run in's, I think we should take the past couple of results very seriously and look to rectify the cause before the situation escalates. Strong heads on strong bodies are going to be required for the next ten games. There can be no room for anyone carrying injuries, lack of confidence or poor form. We need an injection of energy and determination into the team, for me that means Pritchard or Hughes who would also add experience and a cool head. The first goal at Scunny could be very important. If results all turn against us again next week, nerves could really start to kick in. We need to maintain this lead for at least another 3 games before we can start getting excited.
Saturday was a fluke result, what other league have you ever seen the runaway leaders 4 nil down at half time? It just shouldn't happen but it did, hopefully this wakes everyone up but this time last week we were thinking the league is already done after our Bournemouth winner. 4 more wins will seal promotion imo
When did a blip become a wobble, and now a possible slump! It sounds like were just a plummit and freefall from it becoming serious!
We should still be fine, despite the knowing exchange of "weve seen it all before" glances with North Stand Steve as I walked up Floyd Road after the game Saturday, now two days on and after only just being able to read CL again, I realise that whilst we may have seen it all before, these players have not so fully expect them to bounce back Saturday, i think....(hope)...Oh I just dont know....(pulls mental duvet back over my head and changes the subject)
I think that we will lose to Yeovil and possibly Huddersfield but we'll get over 10 points from our other 7 games and still go up, probably as champions.
Can't help but worry we are blowing this, know that I am a huge pessimist (the last 5 years of supporting us has not helped), but really think teams have begun to work us out and our lucky knack of winning games without playing well has ended. The last 4 games, we have deserved next to nothing, still not sure how we escaped Bournemouth with 3 points, and the rock solid defence we have built our success has looked very leaky with more individual errors in the last 3 than in the last 30 before.
We played some of our best football with Hughes in the sides and imho he really needs to be bought back in to sit infront of the back four and help Hollands and protect the back four.
Really hope, I am overreacting, but the second half at Scunthorpe was at times painful to watch, there was very little to be positive about (except perhaps Hamer's excellent saves). With two really tough games in the next week, I doubt we will have the same lead this time next week.
In addition, the threads such as "what game will be seal promotion at" and "Congratulations to Charlton" really irritate me and are far too premature.
It's the Charlton way. Where's the fun in winning the league by the second week in march ? Two wins this week would have made the final ten games oh so boring. I'm right aren't I.
Oh dear you are so so right. Whats the point of being a Charlton supporter if we won it easy. it's not the Charlton way. We don't do things like that. It has to be nail biting, edge of the seat stuff with all the twists and turns. That's why we love them .
Win it they probably will but not before the team has put all of us through mental torture.
Come on, chaps, just remember that we are Charlton and like to do things the right way.
Tieing everything up by early April is totally unBritish. The season is supposed to last 46 games and anything less than 45 games is totally unacceptable
Happy to be mildly pessimistic until we're over the line. Unbridled optimism tends to be the preserve of the challenged. He who keeps his head while all around him are losing theirs has probably failed to understand the seriousness of the situation.
For now, maintain, the gap, take it one game at a time and hopefully have a relaxed run in.

I remember this season i was 12 and it scared the hell outta me!
Ipswich came 3rd on 87 points and I feared they would catch us!
Maybe I have been OTT can't see us losing 5 of the remaining 10!
