Question for the older Charlton

I'm stuck here at the Arsenal academy waiting for my son to arrive and on the wall they have montage of youth players that have made there first team between 1960-1997 they've had 29 players! We must have had more can we name more then 29 who came through the ranks at Charlton?

Hardly the same quality, but the accademy has only been going since the 90's

Billy Bonds - We had youths before the academy was invented.

edit: damn - beaten to it.
  • Sean Newton
  • Rashid Yussuff, Alex Stavrinou, Harry Arter did they play 1st team? Did Dean Chandler, I don't remember him. I offer you Linvoy Primus, Lloyd Sam, Shawn Newton, big Carl, and who was that other winger that went to Wimbledon?
  • Graham Tutt
    Mark Penfold
    Dave Shipperly
  • Carl Leaburn. Did Paul Mortimer come through our youth team?
  • Arter and Stavrinou both made appearances in the Carling Cup. Dean Chandler scored on his debut away to Reading, meaningless, televised last day of the season 2-1 defeat.

Sorry to join the "pedantic about grammar" brigade, but it's Shaun Newton, not Sean or Shawn!

1960 to 1990 by no means exhaustive but apart from the Bonds & Peacocks of this world most of these I am pretty sure had played for the colts:-
Bobby Curtis, Ray Tumbridge, David Stocks, Graham Tutt, Vic Hallom, Peter Reeves, Dennis Booth, Paul Walsh, Paul Gilchrist, Vince O'Kane, Dave Shipperley, Phil Warman, Ritchie Bowman, Mark Penfold, David Campbell, Les Berry, John Harrison? Kevin Smith? Kevin Dickenson, Paul Elliott, The Kimble twins/ brothers, Mark Stuart and Scott Minto. However we may have picked up some of these lads from other clubs so I stand to be corrected.

    Marvin Hinton?
I believe Marvin Hinton made his first team appearance a little earlier in the 1957/8 season
  • Did Dean Chandler, I don't remember him.
Chandler did, he was done for drugs at the same time as Bowyer

  • Carl Leaburn. Did Paul Mortimer come through our youth team?
I thought we picked him up from Fulham.
  • Marvin Hinton?

Yes your correct, I thought he didn't break through till 1960, although Chelsea bought him in 63.

This means Kinsey would have also been late 50's.

Not so good 1 out of 3

Great player one of my heroes when I was a kid and he was one of the first exponenets of the continental sliding tackle which would have seen him sent off by half time these days! Had Derek Dougan in his pocket at Aston Villa when we lost 2-1 in the FA Cup 5th round 1962.
