I'd like to know exactly what went on during the Battle of the Bridge for instance but I guess that's not "cool" enough for some people.
Wasn't that the relegation decider in 1988, Paul Miller scored for us to send them down via the play offs to the old 1st division, Leaburn got cleaned out off the ball at a corner by a big blond centre half Steve Wicks? and when he woke up 5 minutes later it took half the team to restrain him from killing his assailant and Mortimer was sent on as the calming influence for him?
Legend .....? Your having a laugh !Short memory syndrome Seems to be the order of the day he was absolute pants
He definitely split opinions you either rated him or not but I did and know for a fact that another true legend 'Walshie' was glad that they were on the same side.
Loved him, loved him, loved him! He may not have been the best player we've ever had and he may have come in for a lot of stick due to his lack of goals but to my mind he added so much more to the team.
Anyone at the Valley for the 2-0 win over Millwall (when Shaun Newton was poleaxed by Pat Vandenhow) will recall he was like a man possessed that day.
He will always be special to me cos he sent me a handwritten card for my 21st.

Crikey, I have just had an instant flashback and everything all seems so vivid like it was just the other day, got goosebumps!
Surely his best goal was away at Southend where he beat five defenders (twice) before firing home. It was like he had suddenly transformed into a Brazilian!
Bobby Robson held Leaburn in high regard when he was in the under 19 squad.I remember Leaburn hitting the post from 2 yards out open goal at Sellout Park against Spurs and from the rebound Spurs went up the other end and scored! He completely lost it at Stamford Bridge and am having fond memories of Miller's outstanding lob over the Chelsea keeper that day.Okay then deflected shot!!!Wasnt Leaburn's first few goals for us only scored at grounds with park in the name?

Would have gone 2-nil up if that had gone in.
You dont have to be a great player to be a legend.
did doyley ever give him a percentage of the profits he made from the i saw leaburn score a hatrick.. with his feet tee shirts? still have this at home somewhere.
I sometimes wonder whether he would have been better had he not been thrown in to division one as a gangly teenager because we had nobody else.
Len, you are quite right with that comment. I remember a City Addicks do when Lennie admitted that he had had to throw Carlo in far too young & far too early & that his overall game had suffered because of it. Lennie was quite upset about it but he said he had no choice, as there was nobody else.

(An olden but golden).

By the way. Leaburn IS a Charlton legend. Has nothing to do with his ability, or lack of, but is most definitely a legend.
Anywhere.
The rest of his game typically Charlton (in a good sense) honest endeavour, good days, bad days.
