“@liamhappe: Two more Young Addicks earn their pro deals: left-back Morgan Fox and central midfielder Bradley Jordan. Both extremely deserving, too #cafc”
or maybe we're willing to give young players more of a chance to prove themselves? Would explain mambo's contract being extended last summer and would be in reaction to danny green and danny haynes coming back to the club. The new owners have seriously invested in the academy and long may it continue!
Yes, Sho-Silva is signed but he is only a first year scholar and thus can continue to work on his game with the U18s next season, as Harriott did this year. He discusses that in the Valley Review on Saturday.
Goldberg, Willer and Howard are with all due respect pretty easy guesses to make. Goldberg and Willer being sent out to non-league clubs on 'work experience' is to me a sign that the club are trying to help them get a head start in finding a new club.
Great that the club are recruiting from the Academy in bulk. Under-18 level is never the end of a player's development and good to see the current regime working hard to make sure some of our promising youngsters have a serious chance to become what they can be.
And if they don't make it, they'll have more pedigree and name value to ply their trade elsewhere and perhaps one day do a Stacy Long and make a real go of it after struggling to break through on that initial first pro deal.

I agree, though they still need to have a decent season to have a chance of being kept on.
It's interesting that we seem to have cut down on giving players "work experience" in non-league. Mambo, Jenkinson, Elliot, Randolph and plenty of others that turned pro had a "work experience" loan or 2 in non-league.

out of interest, do many other clubs do this "work experience" or is it just us? And if so, would it ever make its way onto Football Manager (as i know you're the charlton researcher)

It's not just us, but no idea how often other clubs do it.
As for FM, pretty sure it would have been suggested several times, and is no doubt on their long list of ideas for future versions.
A number of clubs are looking to take Wales Under-21 international Morgan Fox on loan from Charlton.
The highly-rated 20-year-old - a graduate of Charlton's academy - is currently understudy to Rhoys Wiggins, who himself has been linked with a Premier League move.
But Charlton are understood to be keen for Fox to gain experience and are ready to let him depart on loan, with clubs in League One and League Two keen on taking the left-sided defender.
Brentford, Tranmere and Walsall are believed to be amongst the clubs keeping tabs on Fox's situation.

Not surprised by this. Saw Morgan play for the first time over a month ago at the valley in an under 21 game vs Brighton and he really impressed me.

Fox is understudy to the actual understudy (Evina)!
