Wolves 3 Charlton 0 14/2/76 FAC

edited March 2012 in General Charlton
Hello all, Is there anyone out there that has a copy of the MOTD footage of this game. One of the first I went to and would love to see the game again. I could do a swap for some other Charlton footage.

  • This was my first ever away game and went with my Wolves supporting dad so if you have any joy let me know please mate. John Richards hat trick eh?
  • My first away game outside London was ten
  • I was 9 at that game and remember it well - i was scared and excited at the same time. Buzzing outside the ground and what seemed like millions of people to a 9 year old used to Rotherham at the Valley sat in the seats with my dad and his pal and his boy (they were both palace!!)
  • It was definitely a featured game on MOTD as I remember watching it when I got home, so it may be on one of their compilation tapes/dvds: I haven't seen it on the box since then or on the CAFC video of the '70s. Might be worth checking Wolves sites for a John Richards' dvd which would most likely have it. VCRs were in their infancy then, expensive and the size of a small car so not many would have taped it off the TV. Remember the game for the wrong reasons: got chased by a load of Wolves and, more seriously, it became the last full game Graham Tutt played for us as the next week that b******d Finney kicked him in the head at Sunderland. Never forgotten that!
  • I went with a school mate and his parents, remember being excited and hopecfull we could get a result but Richards put paid to that. There was quite a lot of local press coverage at the time which I collected at the time.
  • We really badgered Rodney Stone into arranging a 'football Special' for this one and there was so much demand we got two. Fantastic turnout and a memorable day
  • I remember this well, Richards had either been dropped or was just coming back from injury. I really thought it was 3rd round day at the start of January? Was it really the 4th round? I got out of a sick bed to get on a mini bus for this and was sure I had been ill over Christmas -???

I thought it was the 5th round
  • My first distant away game (we took about 10k). got the train; arrived early with 2 mates and got chased out the station by Wolves boys (I hid in a butchers shop). Thought we played well but were out classed on the day.

  • Hello all, thank you for your comments and stories. I do have the goals on a John Richards decade at the top vhs since converted to dvd but this only shows goal snippets but no extended highlights. I am still hopeful of getting hold of extended footage.
  • Blimey you people bring up some old games.

The only time I went to an away game by train. Richards did come back for this game and made a real impact.

So many Charlton fans were really up for this; great feeling going up on the train.

Remember we played really well that day, forcing corner after corner.

And then Richards giving us a lesson in how to take chances.

With Killer making a very obvious dive towards the end in a desperate attempt to claw something back.

  • This was my first away game too. Dad drove us up to Wolverhampton and I remember having to walk through a subway and being terrified when loads of Wolves fans came running past us. Wolves seemed such a big team at the time.
