Team Needs A Shake Up

Very disappointed with losing our unbeaten home record tonight, yes we have had an outstanding season but for me there were too many poor performances tonight and I don't think it would have been an impossible ask to go the season unbeaten at home especially with the way we know this team can play. I don't think we have been as consistently dominate in games since the start of the season and feel that a shake up would benefit it, for me that should have come tonight and I hope we get it at the weekend, with the two changes being Haynes for Bradley Wright-Philips and Russell for Hollands. I think Haynes has been looking very sharp and I just feel more confident in him right now that he is going to score than Bradley, Hollands looks knackered and I think Russell would be a good replacement for a few matches. I also feel that Danny Green has been coasting for a while and could do with Scott Wagstaff breathing down his neck for a place, so would like to see him get a spot on the bench.

  • i would only change the midfield around

haynes is fast and that is it
  • Blip . Get over it. No change needed.
  • Would like to see Hayes brought back - gets the team to pass Arround more instead of just hoofing it to kerm - I think one of the reasons we let in the second ! Change green for Haynes and Stephens for Hughes or Russell to shore up midfield and defence and we will be Alrite
  • Sorry but it's two poor performances in a row, and we haven't looked anywhere near as convincing in 2012 than as last year, doesn't mean we have been terrible but think a shake up could be good for the side.
  • Mr D Stephens will be the one to miss out on Saturday. Poor at Bournemouth, poor tonight and Hollands looks better alongside a holding midfielder.
  • and if we lose another game after ten unbeaten will we need another shake up for the final two games of the season ?
  • We just seem to be slow out the blocks every home game - and we then let the opposition get a foot hold in the match. Centre Midfield looks too static to me - neither player seems to want to bomb forward and make a run into the box. The only change I'd make is to put Russell back in the middle (as it looks like Hughes is off the radar now).

No need to panic, but an improvement at home is needed.

I know we have been good but that doesn't mean that the players and the team are untouchable from criticism when we do play badly. Also I believe that Hollands has looked tired for a while now and that BWP before his goal against Stevenage then subsequent follow up against Chesterfield must have been very close to be dropped for Haynes who I feel is looking a lot more confident at the moment with a point to prove.
  • God, we lost one game. The first one we've lost in 2012 and you want to shake up the team. Stephens was poor tonight, but I think people are too harsh on Green who had a decent enough first half. Dropping Hollands is insane, the work he does can go unnoticed but he's one of our most consistently good players. The one thing we really have to cut out is going behind at home, it invites the opposition to sit back and soak up pressure, and we've done that against Bury, Rochdale and Colchester recently. Tonight was all about finishing, and ours was not good. Play that game again and we'd win it every time. Try not to panic, we're only top of the league
  • Yes we lost one game but we have had quite a few poor matches recently and it's only been Stevenage and Chesterfield where we have looked convincing in my opinion. A slight shake up is only going to benefit the squad as a whole I feel and might actually see us go back to spanking teams more regularly.

  • It's not a question of 'dropping' Hollands or Stephens, but we have had a series of 2 games a week, and it takes its toll, especially in the engine room of the team. A small bit of squad rotation is sometimes necessary to keep energy levels up
  • I've only seen a few away games this season and consider this is not a brilliant team. It's a hard working, well organised team that has been both consistent and lucky when luck has been needed. There is no point in shaking the team up too much at this point in the season and in any case, the available replacements are not any better than those who have been regularly holding down first team places. It's natural that as we are so far ahead, the players will get just a little smug and complacent and other teams will target us to earn a few brownie points of their own, and of course, many clubs are still battling for promotion or to avoid relegation. The time for a shake up would be if we lose the next three or four and I don't think that that is going to happen

A good strIke for the first goal and a Hamer balls up for the 2nd. Not the end of the world is it. How many teams go unbeaten at home over 23 league home games. Get over it.

Only Stevenage and Chesterfield since 2012 began or recently?
  • No need to doubt the starting 11's ability - look what they have achieved. But a few changes would be beneficial coming into the run in. For one thing it avoids complacency in the starting eleven, but more importantly some of these players need a rest. This is a big season with lots and lots of games, of course they will tire.
  • Only thing I would do is rest Hollands and play Russell, and maybe make my subs a bit earlier if things weren't going to plan. Haynes stood on the touchline a good 5 mins before he came on, and we conceded the second in that time, not saying he could have stopped Hamer taking a touch, but you never know how things can change.

I think Haynes hasn't shown enough to warrant a starting berth yet.

Our main problem tonight was Jackson, Green, Wiggins and Solly pushing really high up when we had the ball, Morrison and Taylor didn't have an outlet other than Hamer, and Hollands and Stephens were harried by the midfield so much that they couldn't turn and pick out a pass, so we started hoofing it. I would like some players to drop deep for the ball and run with it, Solly made a few great runs in the first half but we didn't keep at it.
  • Agreed this is a very good starting XI, better than some Championship sides and we do have good squad players who can keep some players on their toes who are getting a bit complacent, one of those being Green in my opinion who I am a fan of but he alongside Wright-Philips I think are our most frustrating players.

To answer your question Garrymanilow I mean 2012, we were decent in spells against Brentford, very good first half vs MK and Sheffield United and from comments very good against Sheffield Wednesday so willing to add that game to Stevenage and Chesterfield.
  • No team dominates every half of every game. Ever. Not Brighton or Norwich in this league, not City and United in the Prem, not Barcelona. To say we've only had 2 or 3 convincing performancees this year when we've taken 27 points out of a possible 36 is insane. Genuinely insane. If you want us to walk this league looking like we invented football every game then I think it's Fifa you're looking for
  • Keep saying this but I don't like the look of Green Stephens Hollands Jackson as a midfield 4.

Good players at this level but something's missing, pace for one.

We'll get by for now, but don't see them as our midfield in the longer term unless.
  • That's exactly it. I believe green and jackson on the wings is just simply not good enough. Don't get me wrong I love jackson but I honestly think what's going wrong is both the widemen are not quick or direct enough. Green attempt to be direct and quick without to much success and jackson doesn't do either but give the team a good balance.

    Bring back hogan ephraim.

  • Were we all saying this after the 4-0 thrashing of Chesterfield, or the convincing victory over a decent Stevenage side? No, not at all.

All first XIs lose games from time to time, doesn't matter what level you play the game at. The current eleven is fine as it is. They've lost one game in 2012, not exactly the end of the world.

Pretty much agree with all you said. Not too disheartened but agree none the less.

The Arsenal invincibles didn't, nor most cup winning teams!

Understand hat your saying however Hollands did look knackered which meant Stephens was way too deep for most of the match, and surely Haynes deserves a start, how many chances has BWP missed? And Green, sorry mate he was poor today.

Nothing's broken so there's nothing to fix. I just fail to understand the drama after we lose a game. Our strongest 11 is what we started with today. That has been proven time and again this season. Why change it unless forced to through injury.
  • Think maybe people are forgetting about Hughes, personally I think him and Hollands worked PERFECTLY together, when it was those two as our central midfielders we were winning by large margins. I think he is a VERY underrated asset.

Yeah you're defo right there. 3-1 and 5-2 when he has been playing
  • Give the players a break, most of them look physically and mentally shattered at the moment, the seasons starting to catch up on them, if CP rests a few and we lose people say, why change a winning team, he can't win!

1st goal was a belter , 2nd just sloppiness, Hamer has been threatening to do one of those all season.
  • You're correct Forza, we would have been happy to get out of Bournemouth with a point. A little shake up of the team would have been the right thing to do. That's not booing, demanding the manager's head or getting on the players' backs, it's sensible rotation and why we've got a big squad.
  • I agree we need changes the team are leggy (as reported by a mate) and have looked so the past couple of weeks.

Agreed. We may be getting complacent and may even be getting tired as a squad, but our results have come good regardless, due to our 'current' team being better than the others in this division. No need to mess with something that isn't broken. 3 loses in 35 is an awesome stat, even if the we are only just grinding out results. One Aim.
