Just wanted to know your opinions on this. Apparently he is attracting a lot of interest from Premiership and high end championship team. What do you think?
As we look like we will be in the Championship next year, yes I think he will stay. He may be tempted by a Prem team, but I hope for his sake he does not get lured in by them cos he needs games, not splitters on his backside warming a bench. If he continues to progress as he is at the moment, we may find it difficult to keep him in January/Summer 2013.
I would think that on the back of this season the club will rip up his current contact and give him a nice gleaming new one with 5 years on it. If he is as good as he has been this year, every chance a big fee will be offered by a struggling prem side.
If we manage to keep our back 4 and they grow just that little bit more, we will also stand the chance of having the best (one of at least) defense in the champ.
I don't know him personally ( although his sister has shampooed my hair a few times) I think he is a young man who has his head screwed on .
He definitely has one of the best footballing brains I've "seen" in a Charlton player for some time at such a young age & feel that inevitably reflects on the way he deals with life in general - with a calm, committed, never say die attitude.
With the added guidance of SCP, I feel sure that he will make the right decision when the time comes.....and elect to stay with his only team for another few years... if not for the rest of his career if we reach the high echelons of the Premiership.
Come off it, he's only been in our 1st team for a number of months, yeh he is playing really well, but perhaps the manager deserves alot of cred for that in particular.
He's at home at charlton for now, I'm not at all worried about him leaving.
He will leave at some stage maybe in the summer, maybe in the summer in five years - hopefully he will only take the opportunity that is right for him and his future career.
As a fan naturally I wouldn't want to lose him but if I were his dad/confidant I would say 'fill your boots mate' the same as I would have with Scott Parker and Robbie Elliott. It's a short career which can come to an abrupt end so milk it whilst you can.
Every player has his price. He seems a good lad, but he'd love to go to Arsenal and I'm sure he'd happily accept a long contract with any of the big teams if the deal was right. Hopefully we'd be in a position to hold out for his true value, if we're a CCC club with a bit of cash in the bank.
Provided we do get promoted then definitely yes as why bother moving to another Championship team. Not ready for any Prem team to come sniffing until he has at least one very good season in The Championship and if I'm honest I think his size might well put off a lot of Premiership clubs from getting to interested. I can see Chris staying and growing (as a player) with us.
He's a better prospect than Jenkinson, in my opinion. And given we have the Arsenal precedent, you can't rule out a prem club moving in for him. If they did, I like Ran-Too-Far's loan-back-for-a-season suggestion. Young players need games under their belt. How much competitive football is Jenkinson getting? I suspect he would have developed better and quicker by playing in a soar-away league-winning side this season than mucking about in the Arsenal reserves. (Shelvey was a slightly different case , because sadly at that time the team and club were dysfunctional and it was vital to get him into a better environment).
But going back to Jenkinson, with Solly and Wiggins in such cracking form, I don't think he would get into the Charlton side this season, even if he could play equally well on either side of the pitch !
Chris Powell is the best manager he could possibly be under, he's learnt alot from him after he gave him a new lease of life. He'll stay for a bit longer, I'm sure of that.. the longer we can hold onto him the more he'll be worth, he'll be getting more experienced.

I think Jenkinson would have started as first choice and looked a better player in this team. If he stayed fit some would probably be saying we'll need a new right back as competition as they don't rate Solly...

Agree. I rate Solly as we all do, but don't see top Prem clubs coming after him. Wiggins probably closer to what they'd want, pace and fairly skilful, a modern wing back.
The Jenkinson thing is a funny one because under normal circumstances I think he would still be waiting for his chance but given Arsenal have no defenders and Wenger won't buy any his opportunity has come a little sooner than we all expected. I wouldn't want Solly to move on too soon or at all in fact only to sit in the reserves as happens to so many young players who go to bigger clubs too early. John Bostock anyone ?
