Yann Kemorgant stole the limelight down in Dorset as the runaway league leaders came away with all three points. Bournemouth made the South Londoners work hard for their victory, and the win set a new record of 13 away league victories this season.
After victory at Chesterfield on Tuesday night, Charlton could be forgiven for starting slowly. In fact, they could have been punished had Wes Thomas's effort not clipped the outside of the post. Special mention must go to Chris Solly who was as reliable as ever at right back, despite constant pressure from Scott Malone. The left winger found himself with time and space on numerous occasions, but his team mates failed to find a way past custodian Ben Hamer in goal.
It was the home side who were grateful to their keeper after half time, as Darryl Flahavan expertly kept out Danny Green's effort. A corner from the right was only half cleared, and both Danny Hollands and Dale Stephens saw their efforts blocked by the home defence.
Bournemouth were looking to catch Charlton on the break, and the tricky Donal McDermott weaved his way through Charlton's back line more than once in a period where the visitors had to be on their guard. Charlton old boy Harry Arter saw his effort flash wide in a finale where both teams were reluctant to settle for just a point.
Then, deep into added time, Charlton won a corner after fantastic persistence from Danny Haynes. The visiting fans on both sides of the ground rose to their feet as they sensed that something special was about to happen.
Although it wasn't that pleasant on the eye, Kermogant rose highest to connect with the corner to send the fans, bench and his teammates into delirium. The wild celebrations showed just how important the goal was.
With Bury equalising late on against Huddersfield, and Oldham grabbing a last gasp win at Brammall Lane, Charlton fans can now start putting together their Championship travel plans.
