Yes, but Jimenez signs all the players and runs the show. I'm reliable told that Slater is more operational. Jimenez and Sir Chris sign all the players. For me he's the power house.
There is a lot - a LOT of old shit on that post. How many people are eating humble pie now after going back and reading that again? I bet a few of them are reading it and still thinking "oh, but I was right to think that at the time". No - you weren't. Powell inherited an absolutely dire bunch of footballers - the difference between last year's 'team' and this year's TEAM is absolutely palpable. Anybody who thought last year's shambles was the manager's fault (Powell's OR Parkinson's) was deluded.
Met him recently; spent an hour and a half in his company. Had the ability to have a room full of people, football fans and non football fans alike hanging on his every word. The way he represented himself and our club was fantastic. He is a unique man, particularly in this profession. Just goes to show that being humble, respectful and considerate of others goes a long way, regardless of the job, position or title you hold.
A lot of hysterical pish was certainly spouted last year -- thanks, MC, for reminding us of your attempt to restore a bit of sanity to the forum. Everything you said in this and other posts at the time has proved entirely accurate.
Speaking of hysterical hogwash, how does the author feel about the "Powell ain't got a clue" thread now?
Apart from being a legend, a god and my hero, he is above all else a truly decent human being and man. We love you SCP. So nice to meet a person of the people who is humble enough to be one of the people! CAFC are so lucky. Thank you new owners... and Chris.
i got a signed picture of him in august for a pound. good buy. but my ever lasting memory will be in the prem days i stood autograph book in hand wanting a autograph from literally any player. i gave up eventually and turned round to go up the stairs only for a old fella to tell me turnt around. i see chris powell had jogged over from the other side of the pitch just to sign this little autograph book for me. im so proud he's our manager.

can't be bothered to go back, but if the players were so crap then how come we were well in the play offs at the half-way point?

Probably because this league is toilet. I would fully expect this squad as it is to survive the Championship, with a few additions who knows?

I'm flabbergasted that people are trying to make up excuses for him, we need to cut our losses, not give him the summer transfer window and pre-season. The time to search for a better manager should have already commenced.
It is easy in hindsight though. I don't think we should point fingers at anyone. People were only speaking because of their love of Charlton. It's called passion.
as I was coming out of the Valley with my eight year old nephew at the end of last season I said to him "don't worry , this time next year we'll be champions"
Some fat balding idiot said to us "not with that idiot in charge we won't"
If a board back their manager then you have a chance of success. Based on what he did with zero finances I believe parky would have taken us to the top ten last year and the playoffs this season. Would have been respectable. Powell operates on a different level completely. Quite clearly the board saw in that short interview what we are seeing now. A man who knows how to close the gap between a vision and a reality. Powell is our 'special one'.
If you analyse the results of our 34 L1 games this is what you find: L -1 2 games D 9 W +1 11 W +2 7 W +3 2 W +4 3
Only in 15% of matches could the result be described as comfortable. The great majority of matches are pretty even affairs. Now, some days you get what you deserve and some days you don't. For us to be so consistently successful in such a competitive league means that something is tipping the scales in our favour. Quite clearly it's the manager (and let's not forget his staff).
There is DISCIPLINE - no/few silly cards, for example. There is CONCENTRATION - at both ends of the pitch - from first whistle to last. There is TALENT. There is MOTIVATION, PREPARATION and FITNESS. This all adds up to PROFESSIONALISM in the best sense, instilled by one of the greatest professionals that any of us - players or fans - are ever likely to meet.
When a player is signed by CP it says something about his skills as a footballer but it says much more about his qualities as a professional, a team-mate, a role model and as a man.
CP has brought us pride, self-respect and decency, and the just rewards are being reaped.
Six-letter names beginning with P - Pardew and Powell. We've had them both, and no greater contrast could there be. Fortunately, success has knighted the right shoulders - arise, SCP !!

Completely disagree. If people go shooting their mouths off - on here or (more likely) on other Charlton forums - because they apparently have mystic powers and just "know" that everything is turning to sh*t, then they deserve to have their noses rubbed in it when it turns out they have been spouting complete ballcocks. It's not "called passion", it's called being an impatient childish fool. Yes, you know who you are.

i love you so much
I don't believe I have ever met a more humble, committed, honest man in all my life.
Genius; Legend; Hero - even Fashion Icon ....there are not enough words to describe this man - he is truly talented.
In years to come, there will be another statue unveiled to keep Our Sam company ....no prizes for guessing who !
We love and salute you, Sir Chris Powell.
He deserves every success...hopefully with us.
