I think he'll be better than Megson. Edit. In the long run.
  • Not with those players, so unless MM is planning for next season I can't see the point.

Although Mugson's football is awful, he might have got a result in the play-offs, I can't see Jones getting the players up for it the same way Mugson could have.
  • I agree reckon they are knckered for this season now! Ha

Not a problem if you take soap on a rope into the showers............showing my age again!
  • As I said in the Megson thread, He will struggle if he tries to get this lot playing anything that resembles football. That squad has been assembled for hoofball so the only way he will have any success this season is if he keeps them playing the same style. We all know what happened here last season when CP arrived and tried to get last years rabble to play attractive football.

Personally, I think MM has truly shot himself in the foot this time....................
  • They'll be in the play offs and Jones doesn't have much luck in them.

Wednesday big problem has been losing Marshall, he was the one who created everything for them and when he went they didn't replace him.

  • Jones is a good manager. I would have had him here (before Powell came in). Hopefully it's too late to save them from the dreaded play-offs now.
  • I think the playoffs are a lottery and with a home game in front of a big crows you'd have to fancy them to get into the final, then they are 90 minutes (and potentially one incident - red card etc.) away from winning it.

Jones has not done well when he's not had resources to play with so it is still dependent on what Milan is going to give them to spend. If it's not much then Megson and his style was probably as likely to be successful as Jones is.

I was very pleased to win there, and I thought they had a problem distinguishing between size of support and size of club, but I'm not too worried either way of they go up or not at this stage.
  • give him till may ;-)
  • I don't think Jones will lift them enough to get them into the automatic spots so they are going to face the lottery of the playoffs, which is pretty much exactly what would have happened with Mugson in charge so I really don't see the logic here.
  • I have had a sneaky look on Owlstalk and they are all suggesting Dave Jones rents a house instead of buying as he won't last long, lol
  • Play-offs are usually won by the team that makes a late surge and are in good form, rather than a team that is full of disappointment at missing out on automatic promotion. Just ask any Sunderland fan................................

Im not normally in the slightest bit pc but theres a line you shouldnt really cross sometimes (I think) and implying someone to be a nonce when he certainly wasnt one aint on.

Felt really sorry for the bloke when those false allegations came out and dont think there is much worse you could be wrongly accused of.

*gets back on my high horse and rides back off to my ivory tower ;-)

Decent manager and much more likeable than his predecessor. Still want them to fail though.

I hate to say it, but Jones and Mandaric can't lose, really.

Wednesday are nailed on for the play-offs. If they don't get second place, it's Megson's fault for letting them fall too far behind Shef U and leaving Jones too much to do. And who knows? Jones may just be able to take them on a run that will overhaul Shef U.

Play-offs can be a lottery, though, as others have said. Ireckon there might be hell to pay if they ended up losing in the final to, say, Stevenage or Carlisle!
  • the ex Monkee? .. I thought he died this week .. but seriously folks .. a bad appointment, he's been away too long .. Megson may be a mug but he's surely a better bet than the old man from the locker .. in any case, it won't affect our promotion charge in any shape or form.
  • They've given him his own locker.....

I never said he was, just offered up my own self protection method when taking a communal shower.
  • I'm really looking forward to this years play offs. There will be a few dented egos in yorkshire.

Away too long? He's been out less than a year. He's a decent manager and will do well there - but unless things in the dressing room needed changing this is a very strange decision for Mandaric to have made. It would serve him right if they missed out as a result.

Sorry wasnt aiming it anyone and didnt mean to come over ultra sensitive about it just remember the poor bloke being devastated by it all and citing that he believes it contributed heavily to his fathers death.

  • Wondern what he has in his locker ?

I'm not so certain as some of you that the current Wednesday players are not capable of adopting a new non hoofball style and doing it well enough to still get success this season albeit in the playoffs. Think Jones is a very astute and experienced manager and just what Wednesdy need.

Disagree - most of their fans are dedluded enough to think they would have got 2nd under Megson, so now Mandric/Jones will get the blame when they don't,

Semedo will still be looking to play the ball sideways tho ;-)
  • The Massive have called a press conference for 2pm they are expected to announce the apointment of Dave Jones the ex Cardif boss not the ex monkey. I think a Monkey could do a better job, although Davie Jones is no longer with us, Mandric could have gone for Micky Dolenz, Peter Tork or Michael Nesmith. Now thats wahat i call "Massive"
  • A better manager then Megson but wont get them up this year but will get them automatic next season, in my opinion they havnt lost much as Megson wouldnt get them up this year and with Jones they have a chance of actually watching a football team next season rather then whatever that was on the recent Hillsborough gamethis season.
