RAIN!!

Just been looking at the 5 day weather forecast for Charlton and it is rain, rain and more rain from now until Sunday. Not wanting to put a "dampner" on our hopes but what are the chances of the game being called off due to a waterlogged pitch? Especially given the amount of rain we have had over the last couple of weeks.

Wasn't it a game against West Ham that was postponed after a particularly heavy rain storm on New Year's Day a few years ago?

  • We have covers for the pitch - a kind of balloon. For the West Ham game on NYD it had been put up too late, not overnight (ie groundstaff must have all been out seeing in the New Year), so there were huge puddles of lying water. They also have some machine that cricket gorunds use to mop/ soak up the water, but there was too much even for this - had a grandstand view of it all as we were entertaining friends in Legends pre the match that didn't happen.

So, as long as Paddy Powell has seen the forecast this time, the match should be fine. I always think we play better in the rain, anyway!
  • i'm sure the last time i looked i couldn't see the huge tarpaulin thingy that used to cover the pitch, i'm sure it was around the edge of the pitch before but i haven't seen it... any ideas anyone to the whereabouts of our balloon thingy??
