  • praise the lord (iro doherty).

i have to be honest i didnt rate hayes when he was in the team at the start of the season, however when i looked back at the goals we scored then, he was heavily involved in the majority of them. in no way is he a goalscorer, but creates
  • Don't agree that Hayes has been given a good run of games, also cannot understand the logic in letting him go, unless we are bringing in someone, BWP not 100% fit, Haynes injured, Clarke, say no more, leaving us with the Yann.

Over recent games the forward line has not been scoring apart from the other night against Rochdale in which was not from open play.

I would have thought given our position we should now look to go for the final push to bring a couple of forwards/creative players to finish the job off.

  • As many above, disappointed about Hayes. Clarke is pony, Hayes was an important part of a very successful team at the start of the season. I think perhaps what is working against him is he is not really an impact player who comes on with 20 mins left to change a game, somebody who needs to be starting which clearly he won't be with Kermogant. Clarke is probably seen as more physical a bit of pace so a better option late on.

  • Lets hope the old Doc isn't excluded from fixtures against his home club.

Great player in his day but that was a long time ago.

That's how I see it too

  • Unless he's getting someone else in?
    This (as the kids say).

Would prefer Hayes to stay as it currently stands, but if we are getting someone else in who is better, then I couldn't give a Jeffrey to be honest.
    Couldn't give a schlupp
  • Absolutely ridiculous letting Hayes go. We have not scored more than one goal in a game since early January if you ignore the two pens v mk. A forward has not scored from open play since early December. Astounded.
  • Mmmm not many mistakes our Manager has made this season, but following the Wiggins, Green, ones in midweek & letting Hayes go I make that Three in a week.

One thing the Wycombe fans and their goalkeeper wont be getting is a "Great Nights Sleep" as their clubs sponsor suggests with the Doc at the back.
  • I think the last time I saw Hayes play was 2nd round of the cup and he was awfull. He's OK but not what we're looking for going forward.
Clarke? Time will tell (if people give him time).

CP seems to have built this squad with players with the right attitude and personalities to click as a team not just ability. Whilst it surprises me that Clarke has stayed over an arguably better player he sees these blokes day in day out whereas most of us see glimpses on the pitch and 99% of our opinion is made on the back of that and specualtion.

No one wants Charlton to suceed more than CP I imagine....it's his reputation on the line and at a club he seems to love to boot. He'll make mistakes no doubt and make questionable decisions like most of us do at work but surely with things like this and team selection tactics etc it's down to what he thinks is best armed with knowledge and insight superior to 99.9% of us looking in from the outside.

Our strikers are not scoring loads and im sure if Hayes was the answer hed get the chance. I rate him and who knows perhaps its a long term gamble ie get his match fitness up to scratch and boost his confidence. He has a chance to prove he can do it an easier level with less pressure than he'd get making fleeting appearances for us so its down to him to do the business at Wycombe.

Is there a recall option or definite til end of season?
  • Is Schlupp even fit yet?
  • We've got loads of games coming up as well but as said expect to see someone coming in to freshen up squad.
  • I like Hayes because he's a clever player but sometimes he can look a bit lightweight. He'll do ok at Wycombe. I also think that Clarke may well still come good and surprise a few people in the run in.

Feel sorry for Hayes, we played some of the best football i've seen for a long time at the start of the season.
  • I want the money for my son's shirt back.

Buy him one in light and dark blue quarters
  • We must be getting someone in, so obvious our forwards are struggling to find the net, and certainly can't look to Clarke and Haynes injured

  • Very Happy about both of these leaving very happy indeed!
  • Can see someone coming in as above. Euell wont play Hayes and Smith on loan Haynes hamstring which can always flare up BWP still needing to be managed. We cannot under any circumstances ever let Kerm and Clarke play up top again!
  • Agreed - a bit of attacking magic in on loan with a view to signing for next year. Let's face it, neither of those two (certainly not Doc anyway) were likely to feature next year and there's no doubt we could do with an attacking boost.
  • To be fair, I think Clark looked much better on Tuesday night than he did in his previous outings. SCP has obviously seen something in Clark that he likes.
  • Hasn't Bostock just been released from his loan to Sheff Wed?
  • Owen getting in the Utd team yet?
  • Bostock has been pants for them apparently. If you're suggesting signing him then no ta, don't need centre mids anyway.

    agree
  • Well it's clear we are going to continue to keep lumping it up to yann or Clarke. I'd like to see u's getting it down a bit more
  • I think Hayes was signed early and long before we knew we were going to be able to get Yann, Clarke and (to a smaller degree) Haynes. Something has clearly happened. Hayes put something on his twitter about being "Pissed off" just before a game a few months back and maybe that led to an issue with his attitude/commitment.

I agree that he added something when he played, but he is not likely to replace wither Yann or BWP and is not an impact player by any stretch of the imagination, so it is hard to see how he is going to get in the team. His stats (and I know they are only that) in the Championship do not inspire me to believe that he is likely to be closer to the first team if we go up, so getting him in shop window is probably not a bad thing.

Doc was just not going to feature again, and I have no ill will towards him. He was signed when we couldn't afford anyone else but was, ultimately, not quite good enough for what we wanted. Good luck to him.
