Unlike those other clubs, we don't have a reason to move. Arsenal had to move to build a much needed larger stadium, while post Taylor all those clubs moved as it was easier than redeveloping their existing sites.

Is the land on which the Valley sits really that valuable ? (genuine question)
Worth more as a staduim.
10 acres of which maybe 7 you could build housing on.
At the top of the housing boom land with planning permission in London was going for up to £3m per acre.

It's easy to see why people will look at this and make 2 + 2 = 5. On the other hand it would now seem that our new owners are shrewd hard nosed businessmen looking to maximise the return on their investment who might if the circumstances are right see things very differently to the board during the Murray years. A new 40k stadium with very decent transport links with a licence for other entertainment less than a mile ? From The Valley might seem attractive prospect given the resale value of The Valley site and with Greenwich Council already onside with regard to planning permission for The Valley site. I agree that The Valley is very special to us Addicks but as previously posted is it any more special tha Highbury, The Den, Roker Park, Ayresome Park the list goes on. Change is always hard but not always wrong.
Well of course it's "more special" than highbury etc. After being taken from our home we spent years being forced to play all of our games away but never gave up the fight to return home. We formed a Political party to fight the local elections & eventually through a lot of peoples hard work we managed to get back home. Would we really want to give all of that up when we already have planning permission for a 40k stadium ?

So maybe the Valley is worth £7m IF you can get planning permission (which is big if) and get around the mortgage on the north stand.
Certainly not enough to pay for a new stadium or to cover the losses made over the passed two seasons.
Now if you want a conspiracy theory here's mine.
Mysterons to buy Blackheath Rugby Club.
Sell Rectory Field for housing and move "The Club" to the Valley.
Invest in Blackheath RFC and take to Premiership. Only top flight Rugger Club for miles around (everyone else is West or North)
Share with Charlton and use extra income to re-build the East and James Marshall Seed Stand.
Not on the OS. Yet.
Stop it Henry, you little tease.
The one thing we can pride ourselves on is the fantastic condition of the pitch. Sharing with a rugby club would turn it into a quag mire. Paddy would walk out in protest and our slick passing game would result in hoof ball.

No, i wouldn't even if we could fill an 80K stadium but never say never.
do you think they should get the East Greenwich Civic Centre sorted before blowing out more hot air on so called plans? Last time I saw it was a hole in the ground still where GDH used to be and has been for some time

Some good points as ever Henry but even with The Valley valued at 7.5 million the new stadium would provide a ready made 40k venue with no development costs going forward which cannot be said of The Valley. It would also attract income as a venue for other entertainment with a licence already agreed. As for getting planning permission for The Valley I would have thought this would be much simpler if the negotiations for lease / use of "The New Valley" were with The Royal Borough of Greenwich who would have a vested interest in getting a tenant into the new venue.

Land prices had dropped by around 50% a few years ago http://www.propertyarticles.com/land/20090403356.html
