Wright-Phillips - Haynes - Clark

edited February 2012 in General Charlton
I know BWP is going to score soon, what the latest on the newest recruits? I heard Haynes firghtened the life out of the Bury defence the other night when he came on! Does he deserve more game time?

  • haynes looked very very good imo. great pace, looked good technically and generally worked his socks off chasing all the balls.

would defo start him next match.

would be nice to see him and waggy play out on the wings for one game. both pacey players, would maybe give us another dimension to our play
  • Clarke looked - Awful, very slow and extremely slow reactions, Hayes looked extremely dangerous when he came on, very quick.
  • Haynes is a striker why play him on the wing ? He got annoyed at playing there for Barnsley Powell said he bought him as a striker
  • With two games a week for the next 3 weeks (weather permitting) it will be interesting to see how CP uses the squad. I don't think we'll see too many changes at the back, but we have options in midfield and up top to make changes. In hindsight, I think he got it wrong against Bury, but thats easy to say after we dropped points.

It will be interesting for sure and another kind of test for CP.
  • Things didn't work out for Clarke on the night. I don't think he was as bad as some people are saying. He had a couple of chances and had he put one away I'm sure we'd view his entire performance differently. I trust CP's judgement 100%. I'm sure Clarke will come good for us.

That said, Haynes really did look a cut above when he came on. He looked so keen and fast he must have frightened the pants off of the Bury defence. I'd like to see him starting.

I'm torn on this. Considering we've had an enforced break I'm thinking the rest will have done BWP and his knees some good but then I don't think his knees have been the cause of his drought. My heart says start him

    But

My head says start with Haynes and have BWP on the bench. Just think Danny would grab his chance, especially after his Bury cameo. Give him 60mins and if it isn't happening for him, throw on BWP who'll primed to explode.

Sadly, Clarke will be no more than a bench warmer for us.
  • The Clarke thing is weird. It's like CP wanted someone to play the Euell role. He's doing it.
  • Haynes looked very promising, clarke looked bad no pace and just struggled to keep the ball just gave away possession too easily.

Sadly, Clarke will be no more than a bench warmer for us.
  • Kermogents had a foot injury recently and wasn't going to play at Chesterfield so if this persists we could see, BWP and Haynes tried together, from the little ive seen of Clarke (which is every min he's played in a Charlton shirt) he doesn't warrant a staring position unless Kermogent, BWP, Haynes and Hayes are all injured.
  • The Clarke thing was done as to give people who like nothing better than to bitch and moan about players something to moan about,

How people can hold a judgement on a player after around 1hrs play is quite frankly the most ridiculous thing I have heard

I don't know if he will turn out any good but I will hold my judgement until he has had time to settle in and had a chance

  • Agree with NLA. Clarke did OK and also had a good effort against Exeter, right foot on the run. If that had gone in.......

Didn't see him against Bury, so can't judge.

Some Bristol City fans still rate Haynes and feel he wasn't given a fair chance. His pace looks good at this level.

I'm sure we'll see all 3 in the next few weeks.
  • Clarke had a couple of good chances but at least his efforts were on target.
  • Clarke lacks confidence; thats the real issue. We dont know how good he is until he has been in the side a while. Haynes does not lack confidence. Bwp does not lack confidence and is working hard; he must be frustrated however. I say Haynes must def be given a start and bwp as back up.
  • Clarke will have a part to play like all are strikers, might not be as good as others but im confident he will get us some points with an important goal or assist before the end of the season.

Wish we didnt feel the need to get on the back of certain players, cant all of us fans get more in to the great club spirit about the place currently and support every player who pulls on the shirt this season.

You are of course right NLA, but one thing I have noticed down the years is that they way a striker starts with a new club can often set the pattern for them.
Realise thats a sweeping generalisation, but for example think of Izale McLeod missing that one-on-one against Palace or say Torres at Chelsea.
Be interesting to see how it pans out for Clarke

  • The problem with Clarke was he was paired with Yann, and there too alike. So it'll be Haynes or BWP, and Yann or Clarke.

Clarke is alright, scores goals at this level, but he's man to play the lead role in a two
  • out of yann, bwp, and haynes , even hayes clarke wouldnt shouldnt get a mention , hes workrate is awful and never looks interested , we were doing brilliant before he came along and still are now to be fair but iam really struggling to find what he offers us and brings to the team, (other then shocking attitude)
  • agree lets all moan about clarke and how he lazy and not as good as our other strikers.
  • If Yann is injured tomorrow night then I would go with Hayes/BWP, worked at the start of the season. BWP said in a few interviews he enjoyed playing with him as well.

Clarke doesn't impress me and there's always a reason why Wednesday fans called him a donkey, even reading a few Chesterfield fans they don;'t rate him that highly despite being their top scorer. Hopefully he proves me wrong and scores alot of goals but he doesn't give me too much confidence right now.
  • I imagine Clarke would have played against Chesterfield, seeing that he was recently on loan there and did well, but against MKD I can't see any reason to play him, unless Yann was out, in which case it would be a toss up between him and Hayes. Haynes and BWP wouldn't make sense as a partnership, so I'm sure BWP will start tomorrow - he should be nicely refreshed.

  • I would prefer to see Benson playing than Clarke. Better player imo.
  • Will be Kermit with BWP tomorrow. That's the whole point of resting players, to make sure they're fit for the big games.

Then result depending there may be a change or two for Tranmere, and I'd imagine a few fringe players will get a go against Rochdale next week.

You do realise that Benson is at Swindon, right?

    Thought Yann was injured?
