Nepotistic Ken. That should ensure his election.

Ken Livingstone in Tory 'riddled with homosexuals' row

Conservative MPs have called for Labour's candidate for London mayor to apologise for saying their party is "riddled" with homosexuals.

He really is such a loving, sharing, understanding supporter of Chavez and his own advisors.

Discussing the issue of privacy during an interview in the New Statesmen magazine, Mr Livingstone said: "[The public] should be allowed to know everything, except the nature of private relationships - unless there is hypocrisy, like some Tory MP denouncing homosexuality while they are indulging in it."

Asked why he referred particularly to Conservative MPs, he added: "Well, the Labour ones have all come out.

"As soon as [former Prime Minister Tony] Blair got in, if you came out as lesbian or gay you immediately got a job. It was wonderful.

"You just knew the Tory party was riddled with it like everywhere else is."

He also said in the interview that Baroness Thatcher was "clinically insane" while prime minister.
Where does "Nepotistic" come into it. Livingstones offsprings are a bit too young, at the moment, to be given a job by him.

I can't see anything in the interview to disagree with. The faux outrage from Tory MPs is predictable as it is part of political point scoring. anything rather than accept what is patently obvious.

Livingstone is quite right that most Labour lesbians etc have come out, Even the Liberal Simon Hughes has said he is bi-sexual. There are very few Tories that I know of who have said they are lesbian or whatever. Whether they come out or not is up to them but they shouldn't be hypocritical.

BTW I will probably be voting for Boris as I can't stand Livingstone, and I am heterosexual
  • Left-wingers are more intelligent than the right-wingers as stated in another thread and this is evident in JJ and DG so transposed into this context - Livingstone over Johnson? Hmmmmmmm...
  • Boris! Boris! Boris!

    Kyel Reid?
  • Livingston the man that pissed millions of our money away for tin pot shit naff all. He had the balls to say he broke no laws------he was right-----------with all that dosh at his disposal he had not ONE control measure on the spend. NO laws no control piss money up the wall----how very Labour

The man had 6 socalist action "advisors" to help him on policy. When he lost the election he gave them a pay increase to £120k each. So when they got booted into touch their redundancy was more in their pockets. One of this scum is an ex IRA man and member of REd Action.

Livingston should not even be in the Labour party------------he supported a candidate in east london against the official labour candidate---this should mean he is kicked out the party but as they dont have a set of bollox between the whole lot he is allowed to stay in it.

It is a shame Lord Sugar didnt stand i think he would have been good for London and although a Labour Mayor i would have liked to see him have a go at it.
  • Agree that his use of the word 'riddled' is disturbing - making out it's a disease.
  • Saw Boris on the news last night talking about cracking the gangs whilst wearing a hoody style yoof coat over his pin striped suit. That's clever.

Cant imagine a better personification of the hopeless incompetence which surrounds most public sector leadership. If we're going to do it half arsed, we might aswell have someone who looks the part. As any changes will be negligable whoever is in power we should at least, as the capital of a country which prides itself on its self-deprecating humor, be able to have a good old laugh.

I'll be voting for Boris all the way.
  • Also not a great thing of Ken to say that homosexuals only got jobs under Tony Blair because they were gay & enabled Labour to promote a more understanding image, rather than them just being good at their jobs.

    The bloke is evil.
  • And the Blair babes?

  • Humour or not it was a stupid thing to say.

And agree with DRF "riddled" has so many negative connotations as if it was a disease.

never liked him, never voted for him
  • Didnt Boris come out and admit he had lesbian leanings ?
  • Another thread that will soon be taken over by the insane ramblings of the frothing at the mouth far right....

Though it will confuse them to have to criticise someone for saying something apparently homophobic.
  • I see the PC brigade are on the offensive again, this time because someone shouldn't have used the word "riddled".
  • Here we go.

    Errrrrm....

Go back to the 19th century.

    (Will that do for starters?)

It's not like you have to go far to find something about Red Ken that wants/needs ridiculing.

  • Good move..understated but direct.
  • Ken Livingstone has actually done more for gay rights in the UK than any other politician. It's a bad choice of words that is all.

Boris on the other hand... http://m.guardian.co.uk/politics/2008/may/01/boris.livingstone?cat=politics&type=article

Boris: "If gay marriage was OK - and I was uncertain on the issue - then I saw no reason in principle why a union should not be consecrated between three men, as well as two men; or indeed three men and a dog."
  • How can you NOT want that guy as mayor? Fin hilarious gafs left, right and centre

Boris sounds more enlightened than Ken then if he is saying a marriage with a dog would be fine...

Yes and think of the tax breaks....
  • This is partly why i see the whole of politics as a farce. I wouldn't want Boris in charge of collecting my dustbins, let alone running the whole of London. An incoherent bumbling berk. Best thing he ever did was when he impersonated a bull on the Sky football charity thing a few years ago and eventually got so out of control he fell into and flattened one of the German opposition. That and the fact that Ken Livingstone had managed to alienate himself from most of the population of London. He was pandering to an ever decreasing set of minority groups in the end. Occupational hazzard.

Well if Henry thinks this I'm definitely votng Boris next time ;-)

Actually I quite like the look of the Green Party on this one. I mean, image one of the biggest centres of capitalism being run by the greens!
  • Boris all the way!

    Nepotistic?
  • Yes, some of the words could be replaced with better ones, but he makes a sound enough point and the sentiment is pro gay not anti so who does he apoligise too and for what. The point is, if you denounce something that you practice, it is wrong so Ken shouldn't apologise to those people and he can't apologise to anybody else as he hasn't slighted them. He could apologise to Maggie Thatcher but I'm sure she has said similar about him in her time.
  • Surely he has to apologise to the gay community for infering that they are akin to a disease?
  • Is the gay community offended though or is it the Tory pary? If the gay community is offended by what was overall a pro gay message then I'm sure Ken would be quick to apologise.
  • Nepotistic?
It's that ice cream with 3 flavours, right?
    :D

How exactly was it pro-gay? He stated certain people only got promotions due to their sexuality, positive discrimination is still discrimination. He also states all the gay members of the Labour party have come out, how could he possibly know this? If another Labour MP was still in the closet, he has basically made it harder for them to come out.
