This week's News Shopper - Bitter Spanner wins Letter of the Week

edited February 2012 in General Charlton
Anyone notice this in the latest News Shopper? http://www.newsshopper.co.uk/opinion_blogs/letters/9489988.Tony_Miller___via_email/
Must be painful realising that you're the number two club in a borough that's only got one club! (although the Toolbox must be pretty close to the borough of Lambeth?)

On a separate note, The Mercury, another local paper that favours us over the Spanners, hasn't been delivered to my house since Christmas - anyone know why?

Comments

  • New paper boy probably. If the Mecury newspaper mache i installed 30 years ago is ever removed from the basement of the Bob Hope Theatre, it will fall down.
  • Love the response - twisting the knife regarding Haynes lol
  • And they didn't think it was worth sending anyone to cover their Cup Game at Dagenham. I think their lucky to get any coverage at all - crowds of 7-8000 with probably only 10% of them able to read, doesn't really justify giving them any significant coverage. Maybe the News Shopper should consider providing a pictorial summary of the week's news down at The Dump, make it more accessible to a wider audience.....
  • Lewisham?! The toolbox is in Southwark!
  • Couple of interesting links to the right of that article.....one about something that smells and is harmful to small children and the other about "poo alley"!

    # 'Poo Alley' causing 'health hazard' to school kids (21)
    # It is hard for Millwall fans not to cringe at West Ham counterparts (17)
  • Yeah I noticed the "Poo Alley" headline - clicked on it expecting to read something about the player's tunnel at Millwall, arf, arf!!
  • Lewisham?! The toolbox is in Southwark!
Not quite. Most of the ground is in Lewisham, part of it Southwark.

  • 'One-legged pork thief spared jail'
  • That pork thief was lucky....I didn't think he had a leg to stand on!

That's the worst defence of an editoril decision I have ever seen!

'they are both the same', 'we had no-one to cover' the Millwall game. So erm actually you did chose to cover Charlton over Millwall, which to anyone else could be considered bias?
Then the picture of Haynes - I thought exactly the same thing. The article isn't about Haynes - he features in one line the rest of the article is about what was happening at Milwall during the transfer window.

And if you look at the website article Jackett unconcerned by West Ham's spending power has a picture of Sam but the article is basically about Jackett.

I got to say I live in Lewisham borough and I have to agree, the locals do give a lot more coverage to Charlton than Millwall.

  • I thought they 'didn't care'
  • good..who wants to know about that poxy little shit hole of a club anyway. their 'fans' certainly dont on a saturday afternoon.
  • crowds of 7-8000 with probably only 10% of them able to read,
But surely those bankers who live in the suburbs and "support" millwall so as to show everyone they're proper ard will want to read about the matches they dare not go to?

  • They can't be both from Bermondsey AND Lewisham.
They need to make up their minds!

I'm sure they would like to read about it, probably not in the News Shopper catchment area though. Maybe Country Life or Horse and Hound Magazine could start running a regular feature on the Lions!

  • 'One-legged pork thief spared jail'
I've been a fugitive, on the run for a while as a result of being wrongly accused of the murder of my wife. The only clue that I have is that I saw a one legged man hopping away from the house with a string of pork links round his neck. Of course the police wouldn't believe me. People might laugh at this headline, but it could be a major break for me in clearing my name.

  • This thread is laughably ironic. They are not actually saying they 'care' about Charlton. Just that they are annoyed about the lack of Millwall coverage in the News Shopper, compared to another team(s).

Substitute the words 'Millwall' and 'News Shopper' for 'Charlton' and 'Football League Show' and there would be a very different slant.
  • To be fair... The Spanners do get all the coverage in the crime section !

I heard the Bond franchise were on to this - The Pork is Not Enough, Porkfinger or Live and Let Pork are the front runners for titles, as Dr. Pork, From Pork with Love, Thunderpork, Goldenpork, On Her Majesty's Secret Pork, You only Pork Twice, Octoporky, Pork Another Day, The Man with the Golden Pork and License to Pork have all been rejected.
  • I think the short story from 1963 inspired them - 007 in New Pork
