  • Not sure how I feel with this one. No doubt resting players will help them in the long run, and we have a great depth to our squad with the likes of Evina, Hayes, Pritchard, Wagstaff, Cort and Russell, but I personally hate tinkering for tinkering's sake. Hopefully we have already done enough to be able to play around with the team a bit, but I would rather we played our strongest team until we are definitely up
  • The players are knackered and need a break ... good luck to them.....

I might change my mind come Saturday night! ;-0
  • No resting on Saturday. We don't have a game for a week and a we have a clean bill of health. We can take a couple off if they get the job done in the first 60-70 minutes.

    Sums it up nicely.
  • My guess is Haynes to start, BWP on bench. Otherwise unchanged.
  • 'Resting' a player is also a useful euphemism for 'hasn't been playing well'.
  • I wonder, reading between the lines, if BWP's knee is playing up.

Prior to Monday's match against Bury he'd only missed one other match, coincidentally Bury away.

SCP may have thought that two (on paper) relatively straightforward home games offered an opportunity for a rest without significantly weakening the team.
  • Well CP stated that he took Hollands off on Tuesday because he was tired, so there's one candidate

    Len

Didnt you see SCP's post match interview on Player? he was asked if that was the reason and he was very emphatic that he has no problem with his knee. He said they had known all about it when they bought him and had a special programme in place to manage the problem (or words to that effect). Take a look. I was very pleased to hear what he said.

  • Sounds like the midfield in particular has been a bit flat in the last couple of games.

I would suggest Waggy comes in for Green and Russel in for Hollands and obviously BWP returns alongside Kerms if fit. Not sure Pritchard and Stephens would be solid enough as a pair and Waggy would certainly up the energy levels and now Stephens is back we wouldn't be so reliant on Green to provided the creative spark.

  • He was very firm on BWP's knee, and the fact it was a rest, nothing else. I would suspect he will start with BWP at the weekend, cannot wait to see Dale Stephens in action again, his little cameo when he came on at Exeter was excellent, and his goal Tuesday just shows what he is capable of. I had to laugh at some joker on twitter claiming BWP was at Reading on Tuesday evening, just as I read that who strolled past me, a smiling BWP.
  • Id 'rest' Hollands, Green & Taylor and bring in Pritchard, Wagstaff and Cort

BWP back in for Clarke too.
  • Jackson could also do with a rest but not sure who to bring on on the left
  • Got a feeling green kerm and hollands will be rested for waggy bwp and Hughes/pritch
  • Start Haynes, yes. The "food for thought" must be "what am I gonna do with Leon, now"?
  • Realise that the season will take its toll on players that turn out game after game but on the whole, I favour the policy of "if it ain't broke..."etc . The Stevenage & Bury matches are unfortunate examples of this - maybe we would have been more mindful if Dale's wonder strike had crashed the crossbar on Tuesday evening.
  • It's the mental toughness they require in this run in , and a healthy relaxed and rested body helps have a healthy mind

Our team is fit it has to be because we keep going right to the death we score late goals we stop late chances

It is the mental toughness that will get us through

They looked pretty good on Monday, but by then Bury were clinging on. I'd find it very hard to drop Hollands though, but that's not based on the last few games. More an admiration for his earlier work that threatens to border on mancrush.
  • He doesn't actually say that he plans to rest anyone. He just says resting can be useful.

Well admitedly, I have seen relatively little of both of them, only what appearances they've made in televised games and what highlights I have seen through the CAFC Player. My impression is though that neither are the 'put your foot in' type of player. Not saying either are luxury players, just I wonder if we'd have enough bite against the more physical sides without a Hollands/Russel/Hughes in there.

Would be hard to drop Hollands, but most reports are suggesting his form has dipped in the last couple of games and Powell says he was tired against Bury. Maybe he just needs a rest. Maybe it would be better to see how he looks after the next match but it would be good to have him fresh for the MK Dongs game. He has played a lot of matches and doubtless covered a lot of miles.

  • And his triplets keep him awake at night?
  • Ea you are spot on with the millage all our players have put in , nothing would hurt us more than key players picking up knocks and injuries that with a rest you could avert

    In Powell I trust

To get us out of this god forsaken league
  • Hollands has been excellent all season. No player is going to dominate every bloody game.
