As one of the editors I'd like to apologise on behalf of Charlton Live for the delay in podcast editing and uploading.
Amazing to think but by the time you have downloaded the audio, listened to the 2 hour show pulling out the best bits and scaled this down to 45 minutes, added idents, edited out the umms and arrs, then finally proof checked it, I find I have normally spent around 5 hours worth of editing per podcast.
Both me and the other editor don't have a day off to edit the podcasts so sadly with work it's a case of editing them after work and when you have free time in the evenings.
We try to edit them as quick as possible but fitting 5-10 hours editing into a week is tough and with the Christmas period and the quick run of games time has been limited.
In regards to the show being out of date we try to put in the podcasts elements which do not date easily and I can tell you there's some very interesting interviews which don't get outdated.
I am told a big bunch of podcasts will be uploaded soon and hopefully there shouldn't be a delay as big as this again for a while.
All the work on the podcasts and the shows are done in the people's own time.
One of the editors has a lot of other work to do and already spends many long hours on Charlton related things.
Yes they may be slow but work is on had to make them appear quicker.
You need to remember that the full show goes up on the website for a Thursday, once this has gone up its then a case of editing it to the bite size portion then it can go off to iTunes to be validated before it appears. It only takes a bottle neck of one or two to hold the rest up.
It takes on average 5-10 hours to edit which is not always easy. The actual show is not just the 2 hours you hear but in reality takes 4 hours, an hour prep before hand and an hour after. In that time matches have to be edited and interveiws edited for the shows.
Just bear this in mind for next time, best way to hear is to subscribe to player and get the whole thing.
I might be being a little cynical here but are the podcasts deliberately not put iTunes a couple of days after they are broadcast because they are told not to because it would encourage people not to sign up to Charlton player. ( And yes i do understand the hard work and hours that is needed to get it into podcast form)
It is just not practical for us to get them on itunes in a few days, as we have said editing 2 hours down to 45 minutes involves a lot of work, and how would subsrcibers who pay for the service feel, if within a few days what they pay for is freely available?

If this were the case (and I have no idea if it is) then why is that a massive problem? Its something run by fans using club, FLI and BBC facilities, so it should generate something. It wouldn't be able to run without the servies of these commercial organisations. Why don't you want to support the club by paying for player?
Is there any reason why the un-edited show couldn't just be uploaded? Sorry if I missed something.
The podcasts are designed to give you both a taster of the show and to reflect on some of the best parts of the show so we condense the show into 45 minute chunks to lighten up your day or your commute to work etc. As mentioned we are trying to speed up the release of podcasts
The show is broadcast through CAFC Player (although is independent to the club) and features some content from CAFC Player so the show cannot be just released un-edited as it would not be right for subscribers to find their content for free within a week
For fans who miss a show or want to re-listen to the whole show again every show goes up later in the week on CAFC Player

I do pay for player but it's very rare that i can listen to the show live as i'm normally getting the kids to bet at that time on a sunday night. i know that is the case for lot of people which is why i would like it in podcast form to listen to on the way to work the week after. Please don't jump to conclusions and tell me i don't want to support the club as i spend an absolute fortune buying season tickets for me and my children and watching my club on long away trips.

No worries, the show goes up on CAFC Player the following Thursday, unfortunately we can only put 45 minute bursts up on itunes

Why do they take so long to appear on itunes? I do subscribe to player but I like to listen on my iphone for the daily commute.
