This is one of my pics of The Mount showing the pitch overlooked by the overgrown banking, although I couldn't find the remains of the concrete terracing seen by some.

There's concrete in the bushes by the entrance into the park (the entrance where the big old former pub - now flats - on the corner is. Played in that park as a kid and had no idea what the concrete was at the time.
This is down in the corner, behind where the last pic was taken, and is the corner of Catford's original ground before Charlton took over, now bisected by the path.
And a quick snap of the terracing at the Invicta Ground of Woolwich Arsenal, taken as an irate bloke came out of his door and pushed me away. It must've happened to him constantly!
Just noticed you guys on here have already seen some of my stuff on another of your threads, The Mount - Catford, from last December (I was under the TFF username eastdevongull then) Small world...
I was there the night of the meeting at the town hall. Wasn't able to get in so just hung around with everyone else outside.
Covered End was in the front row, remember seeing him on TV jump up in the air at the decision.
Quite right Chirpy, but I didn't want to brag. I was at the town hall meetings, clean up day, last game at The Valley, first game at The Valley, Selhurst, Upton park. You name it I was there.
For all those interested I've now posted some pictures of the Valley taken by an amateur, from the terraces, of the home game against Huddersfield in 1961 (although there is some confusion and it may be a game against Palace, perhaps someone will confirm this). And thanks for the 4,000 plus hits on the back to the Valley thread, fantastic. The link for the 1960's shots is: http://www.torquayfansforum.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=groundreviews&thread=9237
Budleigh, they are amazing thank you so much, that second shot with terracing pre Jimmy Seed always gets a wow from me, I remember the East Terrace but not that, my six year old is fasinated by the pictures and is all questions questions about where our seats were on the olden days and where are the away fans etc....top pics keep em coming
I would be pretty sure the Sam Bartram Entrance snow scene was taken in January 1963 ..... probably for the home match with Southampton, which I understand was the only fixture played at The Valley during the Big Freeze that winter.
As a 7 year old during that winter, I well remember the huge piles of snow cleared from paths and roadways - it was March before they melted completely.
If you visit the Torquay United Fans Forum, on which I've posted these two threads, you'll notice we have a specific 'room' for TUFC history and another for that of other grounds and clubs. This was done so that important historical stuff didn't get lost as it slid down the list. Maybe that would be worth a thought for on here as the history of CAFC and the Valley is so important.
If you want I can try and transfer the two threads, plus my piece on the Mount, across from the United forum to here, once you've found a home for them?
A thank you to all the Charlton fans who looked at my Back to the Valley story (I have a Mistress!) on the Torquay United Fans Forum. It looks likely to be the first ever on that site to reach 5,000 visits. So great to share those memories with like-minded souls.
Having re-read it I decided to get out the old box of magazines from the attic and spent a few hours reading the Back to the Valley fanzines from issue one until the end. It really was a fascinating story and I'm so glad I kept these intact. Great times!
Wonderful pictures, excellent writing as well - brought a lump to my throat. Thanks very much Budleigh.
Agreed with similar sentiments. Anyone remember 1973 - the back to back wins - 5-0 vs Swansea and 6-1 vs Notts County - seem to recall Micky Flanagan scored a hat trick in both games. Don Masson scored for County!
1973 was my first game, all I remember was getting a bollocking for running up and down the East Terrace.Anyway it hooked me and I am there (away, with the next generation!) tomorrow!!
One of my Torquay United forum buddies has posted some images from last weeks game on this thread, plus some more comments have been posted if anyone is still interested... The link is further back on this thread.

Definitely interested mate. Can you link it again please? I've been back and can only fnd old links on this thread.
I missed this when it originally appeared - thank you so much for sharing. I was there on that Sunday having attended my first match as a 5 year old in 1960. Great memories.

Certainly gives a feel of the atmosphere of The Manor Ground.
I'm no Arse supporter, of course ..... but being born in Plumstead, had no idea of how The Manor Ground would have looked.
Just imagine if Woolwich Arsenal had stayed at The Manor ..... how many of us would be Woolwich Arsenal supporters?
;o)
There's a joke in there somewhere.
Small world...
