edited January 2012 in General Charlton
Got a bunch of old videos encoding at the moment. The best is yet to come, but to keep you occupied on this dreary day, here's the full-length final from the Soccer Sixes 1988.

  • I rememeber this, we were awesome! I think we were 3-0 down to a top Liverpool side in the first game then ended up thumping them.

  • Happy days - a trophy!
  • 50k prize money jesus no wonder we wanted to win and did win it bet that kept us going for a while.
  • Really enjoyed that. Thanks JiMMy.
  • Nice one JiMMy, thanks for posting that.

Looks like Grobbelar forgot his trainers and is playing in a pair of old shoes.
  • "leaburn hitting the boards deliberately to set up mortimers goal" - lol - looked like a terrible shot to me
  • who was david campbell? came from notts forrest northern ireland international, dont remember him at all.
  • Yeah I remember him. I remember dad calling him lightweight. He didn't do a great deal!!
  • Good stuff, Jimmy: I'm glad these didn't end up in the skip!! Still can't see the join where the Final tape is held together Sellotape. Surprised it's lasted so long.

  • Remember this well. i think Micky Bennett got player of the tournament or something, but then very soon afterwards had a shocker of a knee injury and was never the same afterwards.

David Campbell was a striker/right winger. Not particularly brilliant but OK. Apparently he used to queue up in Midland(?) Bank in Bexleyheath in his full Charlton track suit.
  • I was there. Great tournament which we'll probably never see the likes of again. Must admit I found the twat (andy Peebles) bloody annoying, giving commentary.

Looking at the clip, It looks like Addicks legend (to be) Colin Walsh sitting on the Forest bench, could be wrong though..............
  • Shamelessly piggybacking on this thread - video of the group stage matches against Liverpool and West Ham (plus the final again) is here:

The picture quality is somewhat muddy but it's decent enough considering.

That may or may not have been Walshie, but he was certainly with us at the time of the soccer sixes -probably out with his broken leg.
  • Thanks, JiMMy, great stuff. Absolute top men like Bolder, Humphrey and Shirtliff, together with promising youngsters like Mortimer and Micky Bennett. Even Carlo looked as if the ball was obeying him...
