To be honest, although he is one of our best players, I reckon jackson would struggle alot in the championship. He isnt your typical left mid and lacks qualities of a winger. Does a ton well but dont know how suited his game is to the chamionship/prem. Hard because hes our capt n all..
I think Powell has brought well and to a certain extent hedged his bets. The likes of Hayes ,Hughes and Russell I suspect have been brought to get us out of this Division and are unlikely to still be regulars in the CCC if we are promoted. We will need at least two defenders for the squad to cover Solly and replace Doherty.
I too wonder whether Hamer should be replaced , but we should be ok up front .
Wheresmyticket- are you honestly saying that just because I dare to think ahead to something that is looking increasingly likely I have single handedly destroyed all this seasons hard work. I would suggest you keep your superstitions to yourself if you haven't got anything sensible to say. I would however agree with the fact there is a couple of positions we can strengthen. It's all very well saying we shouldn't jinx things and yes we're not there yet but do you honestly think that Powell and the board are starting to plan ahead?
look at it in terms of 'squad' rather than team .. new centre back, left winger, striker for starters ... few of the current team have played in the championship ... give them a chance for a while .. BUT .. if and when change is deemed necessary, Powell has just GOT to bite the bullet and do it .. and there is no doubt in my mind that he will, and he should have the cash to do so.
Think we'd need another keeper to seriously challenge and maybe dislodge Hamer, right back cover, a new centre back, a couple of nippy wingers for either side, a solid ballplaying centre mid and maybe a striker?
Not saying that all of those signings would be straight into the first XI. Just to improve the squad as a whole. The only players I might doubt will keep their places are Taylor and Green.
As it stands it is hard to find a true weakness in the team. At Championship level they may become more apperent, but I'd like to see how this lot go - personally, I think they would be very competetive. Of course, if a player is available at the right price who will improve you further, you do the business but we are certainly not in a desperate position where you would say, we are in big trouble next season if we don't radically improve the qulaity.
People are also forgetting natural development - a young player can get better - Pritchard could become a top player for instance.
I'd keep the keepers as they are - Defence - possibly a new CB to replace Doc and RB cover and then you just see what is available in other positions without worrying too much about them.
My question marks for 1st eleven would be Taylor, Green, & Jackson but any would be good squad players. I think we will struggle (particulaly our strikers) unless we return to the more expansive play earlier in the season, get more men forward and create better chances.
Suddenly no one thinks BWP is good enough to start if we go up? On form in a team creating chances I'm sure he'd score goals in the Champ.
Think Kermorgant would also be fine, again right service he'd score a decent amount and he has enough to the rest of his game to cause problems at that level.
Green is one I'm not convinced about, good player at this level but still inconsistent. Young though and he's been here half a season.
Hamer another that is young and can improve, he's played his part but some games he's not really been tested, it's hard to tell.
I expect we'd replace Doherty to give us 4 centre backs and bring in competition for Solly & Jackson
Maybe a 1st team goalkeeper Another CB to compete with Taylor and Cort to play alongside Morrison RB cover A winger: Competition for Jackson CM competition for Stephens Possibly a CM to compete with Hollands as Russell may go back. Striker
I will give Powell another list of players if he is at the Bromley Addicks meeting at the end of the season again this year :L
