as above ive seen far worse, personally thought it was a great tackle ,wenger will get his own way 1day and our great game will be a non contact sport ,its all about passion and committment and most of all skill ,but we must not take away the competiveness of our great game.
he was quality after the match humble as anything seemed geniuinely upset over the whole thing, comes across as a winner and he is quite a lump as well
Boogica, was it you that wrote that last week, anyway damn right. Reffing isn't easy but its the lack of consistency when they have a few seconds to pause and think, which bugs us. Ref yesterday couldn't have had a better view, but as someone else said, that red came out in a nanosecond. But AshTray says we don't know the laws of the game....
Haven't seen the replay so this is more of a general point...
Players have to be smart. It's all about "excessive force" and "endangering player safety". Those are subjective things so you have to be careful. The days of "but he played the ball" and "it wasn't two footed" are gone.
Just like Vincent Kompany the other week - don't give the ref the opportunity.
In yesterdays case the ref let the game get that way by not cracking down on sheff u's aggression early on, so no surprise it ended how it did.
Thought this was a perfectly fair tackle, from my seat directly opposite in lower west stand. Cannot believe the standard of refereeing in this league. The ref missed a lot of fouls on BWP in first half. He let Sheffield Utd get away with lots. Dirtiest team I have seen at the Valley this season (that's every home game since Chesterfield)! Don't understand why one crunching tackle on Johnnie Jackson was deemed perfectly OK, but Daryl's a sending off offence!
Having seen the limited highlights on BBC last night, it is difficult to see why the (Wiggins?) tackle immediately before deserved nothing, not even a foul and then Russell such an immediate red card?
There was so little difference between the two, it only goes to highlight the inconsistency very starkly.
I thought it was a sending off at the time and I still do, although I haven't seen the tackle again. I thought, although he led with one foot and possibly made contact with the ball, his trailing leg was off the ground. So he was not in control. I think that is what I saw but it was very quick and gos to show how difficult it is to ref a pro game.
Not a fan of footballers on Twitter. But if he has used his page to apologise (even though he may not need to apologise as he was arguably harshly done by), rather than simply to criticise everyone else, then something good has finally come from footballers tweeting. Compare and contrast with Joey Barton, McOxo and about two thousand other tossers...
Thought there was a bit of handbags just before the tackle between Russell and maybe the player he went for. But we have had worse tackles than that on us and players haven't been booked. A yellow i'd say and fair play to Russell for the apology.

As Boogica says, we've seen far worse all season, including the assault on Pritchard last week for example.

I thought it was an ok tackle, and wasn't malicious - but when you're coming in from behind in some ways you're asking for trouble.
I doubt we'll appeal, and if we do, I doubt we'll be successful - it's too much of a grey area.

when a Sheffield player wants a free kick he only needs to see if a Charlton player is within 12 yards of him and then fall over.
The refereeing sounded like it was a joke yesteday.
