Hassle exchanging Jackson Five ticket

edited January 2012 in General Charlton
What was marketed as a straight forward walk up and exchange a voucher for a ticket at five games of your choice, was far from it today. We arrived at the North Stand ticket office at 2.40 to find four cashiers not serving anybody and one cashier with a queue of about twelve deep. As is 'sods law' we were referred to the one cashier who apparently was the only one able to deal with Jackson 5s and was very busy. When we eventually got served my son was told 'You haven't filled the back of the voucher in' so we moved to one side to do this then waited to get served again by which time the queue had trebbled and only then after some persuasion by the crowd, did another cashier move to the busy section. Back at the counter my son was then asked for his membership number! 'It was a xmas present I explained' the cahier said 'No No I have been told to get your membership number' Absolute farce but fortunately my son found his old red card in the back of his wallet and we finally got a ticket at 2.55. What if my son had not been a red card holder would he have been denied a ticket? I appreciate this is a trial scheme but today's goings on are hardly a good selling point. Hopefully if Airman Brown reads this he will take steps to make the exchange process less painful for other fans at future matches. At least we had a great win, once we finally got into the stadium, to cheer us up.

  • A guy in front of us at the turnstiles was turned away. I didn't see what he had, but my son commented, "that bloke didn't think he was getting in with that did he". I guess he had a Jackson 5 voucher too.
  • I hate to say it but it's really pretty simple...go up to the ticket office (not the turnstiles) with your voucher filled in, including your membership number, and swap it for a ticket...

STOP PRESS: Charlton supporters in "We're top of the league and beat our nearest rivals...let's find something to moan about" shocker.
  • RCT: I agree. Mrs MOG couldn't get to the game today, so I bought my Labrador who's name is Buster, Wasn't sure which gate or enterance to use. Now, He was born in March, but do we count Him in Dog years on a season ticket ? Which I think is unfair. And if You disagree He will like You and He will make You take Him along walk !! x
  • How about you just get to the ticket office earlier and fill the back in first instead of moaning?

I exchanged mine at 1pm, didn't have my con number and had no problems.
  • Ever read the back of the tickets - be in seats by 2.30 pm. Big crowd = queues at the ticket offices. Get real.
  • "Arrived at ticket office at 2-40".

    Well what do you expect?

You can also do them in advance by post like my lads did. But make sure you tell them what game you want the tickets for..........

(to be fair the Ticket Office called to ask)

Thanks for the constructive feedback one and all. It should be a simple exercise but in practice yesterday it wasn't. Just hope you don't experience any problems with tickets in the future because you'll get the same amount of sympathy from me in return.

Bedsaddick said "Arrived at ticket office at 2-40"'Well what do you expect?

I expect a ticket for a voucher simples not all the hassle that went with it. Rant over.
  • Imagine the lack of stress if these problems had occurred at 2pm instead

No stress Buckshee just unecessary inconvenience and what control does anyone have over public transport or traffic jams to get the ground in reasonable time before kick off? Think I'm flogging a dead horse on this one on reflection it's a wonderful system full marks to the club.
  • The reason there were "four cashiers not serving anyone" is that they had no £18 seats in the upper north and NW quad to sell and that is what people were asking for. There were so few £18 seats available, mostly single seats, that we could not bulk print and sell them for cash as usual. Those four windows are not equipped with computers and the people staffing them are not trained to use the computers anyway. They sell pre-printed tickets in all stands, but no choice of seats.

The other two sales points are equipped with computers, but the second person had to be called back to the commercial centre for a particular reason about 2.40pm, which with hindsight was a mistake. That said there were no significant queues or delays anywhere yesterday and i don't think 15 minutes is an unreasonable wait at that time. But I'll have a look at the processes around the Jackson's Five tickets at the north stand to see if it could have been handled better. Bear in mind it's only the second match we've had to deal with it, so issues will come up.

Thank's Airman Brown for clarifying the situation and for offering to have a look at the process; that's all I wanted to hear and it is appreciated. For the future my son now knows to have the vouchers filled in beforehand and membership number to hand.
  • So what's the crack with a membership number?
I bought my sons these for Chrimbo and although they are lapsed ST holders, they have no membership number???
  • Red Card number?
  • Not red card holders either.
  • Exactly one of my original points Stone however my Red Card number is the same as my season ticket membership number so the club may well have those still on record if your lads have disposed of their old season ticket books.
  • but their mates also got Jackson 5 tickets and have never been members or ST holders of any sort.

    Answers on a postcard......
  • my point Deadred was it was expected to be the biggest attendance of the season so rocking up at 2.40 was a bad idea.

I've got a season ticket and generally get to my seat around 2.50 most matches but knowing how busy it could be yesterday I made the effort to get to the ground for half past

You are completely missing the gist of this thread buuckshee read my posts again. Congratulations on your successful forward planning in getting to the ground in good time. I don't have to justify my travel arrangements to you or anybody else but suffice to say it was just one of those days.
