South end of West upper and lower empty, lots of gaps at the south end of the east, two blocks at the rear of the south at best half full, A Block in North lower virtually empty. I'd say it was probably about right.
There were huge banks of seats on the south end of the west stand. The walk up must have been less than usual with people heeding the clubs advice and buying in advance. As for the Championship, don't forget that we would have had lots of season ticket holders not regularly attending in those days.
Remember the days when we used to announce 20k gates every week in the Championship, I reckon there was double some of the gates we had then yesterday
Yeh the point is as they have always said, attendances have to be announced based on tickets sold, We had about 15,000 season ticket holders then and there were games in the 19 game winless run where probably half weren't there.
I don't understand how people can question that there were 6k empty seats, there were plenty of spaces in East Stand, end of the west, lower north, plus probably 500 in the south. Just watching the highlights on the box there are plenty of empty seats visible
There was a relatively low no-show rate yesterday, partly because there were far fewer comps and partly because STs were likely to turn up if they could.
The crowd was a bit under what we predicted because of a smaller SU walk-up and home sales on the day were 1856, down about 500 on recent games.
I don't doubt that when football was primarily a cash business there were all sorts of fiddles worked, but given most transactions are now by card, creating an audit trail, and tickets act as receipts, the old tax fiddle claim is well out of date.
Understand what you are saying Airman but I'm sorry there was no way over 6,000 spare seats in that ground, thats more or less 2 empty south stands to fill. Also, why are there signs saying cash only on match day?
Look at the shots of the stands again CL. Disappointing that we didn't have more but I believe it. Are you and PL54 saying that Airman and the board are thieves or tax evaders? Quite an accusation methinks.
There are four windows in the north stand ticket office where we can only take cash, because there are no computers or card facilities and we have no trained operators to staff them even if there were. It's the same arrangement in the away stand ticket office, where we just about have electricity, and in Lansdowne Mews (which we don't use).
The tickets sold in these locations are bulk printed in advance and this also acts as part of a contingency against the computers going down. These sales are then entered on to the system after the game.
For the conspiracy theorists, we sold about 300 for cash at the north and 150 for cash at the south yesterday. The total combined VAT on those sales, which is the only tax the club would pay, would be about £1,500.
And there were more than 7,000 empty seats, as it goes, because of the no-shows.
If you like to guess the crowd on the day, then wait to half time and see what the value of the instant jackpot is. so this Saturday it was £996 first prize and with this figure I guessed a value of 21000 at half time. It would seem that the instant jackpot is approx the equivalent of 1/20th of the crowd.
TO airmann Brown; yes you are wright about the large variation in away fans, also it on paper does not take account of the season ticket holders who do not turn up, though they are included in the match attendance number, but this measure of attendance works. It is empirical but has been the case since the premiership days, no rime or reason it just works.

And if there were 700 empty seats in the away end I would be amazed
