Hillsborough petition

edited January 2012 in General Charlton
The mother of one of the Hillsborough victims, Kevin Williams, is still being refused an inquest into the death of her son. She says she has compelling evidence but the Atorney general has so far refused to review it. Liverpool Football Club are supporting her application. Sign the petition to allow the mother some comfort. The link and more details is

It closes Thursday so you need to act now

  • Absolutely disgusting the way the families have been lied to and fobbed off for all of these years! Why do they still have to cover up the truth?

    @Redman

I think everyone will be sympathetic to Ms Williams who has clearly had a terrible loss.

However, there are couple of points in what you have written that are wrong and misleading. There has been more than one inquest into the death of her son. Further the Attorney General has looked at the matter previously. This information is contained within the petition.

Whilst she has clearly not had the decision she wanted, this does not make the decision wrong.
  • If you think justice should be brushed under the carpet that easy Sheffield Red that is your conscience.
Please do not put other people fighting for justice and compassion

  • At no point have suggested that justice should be brushed under the carpet. On the contrary I believe that justice is very important in any society.

I appreciate that this is a very emotive subject and I have no desire to cause upset or offence. Nor do wish to stop people fighting for justice.

But if you want people to support you in this campaign why not show people what the compelling new evidence is / the proof that previous inquests did not take place in the correct manner / other factors, that would mean a further inquest would be likely to record a different verdict.
  • I have signed, in my view there were serious errors made by the Police.
  • Signed, justice for the 96
  • Signed because I think there is more to come out.
  • I'm losing track on all these hillsborough petitions. Have we had this one before?

  • I tend to agree with Sheffield Red here. Of course the Police made errors, but the behaviour of some of the fans was a lot to be desired, which is why the gates were wrongly opened in the first place. There has been a lot of untruths from all sides here, including the Police, ground staff, fans and Liverpool football club who claimed that there were no ticketless Liverpool fans there as they had not even sold their allocation for the semi final (for 2 of the best teams in England at the time and Liverpool still on their European ban). An absolutly tragic horrific accident without a doubt, but why is it 'not justice' because the verdict(s) is/are not agreed with? I feel that the release of the documents will show nothing that was not already known. Terrible loss for all the families concerned, but after 22 years I do not see that verdicts will be changed. As I said, horrific for the families.
  • I find this blaming of the fans a total disgrace and idiotic. Why do you feel that the relaease of documents will show nothing? If that is the case why has there been such a cover up?
@buckshee - this is a relatively new one, I'm not sure exactly what the timeline is but it is months I think. I don't think this one has apperared on charlton life before.

Looking at the petition now it has now passed the 100,000 signatures required although the more the better. I attach below a link of thanks to all those who have signed from mrs williams

  • Redman - the gates of the ground were opened because of the crush caused by fans surging forwards outside. I think that has been widely accepted, so yes there is some blame attached to the fans who were pushing forwards. Whether the Police opening the gates was the correct thing to do or not is another issue - had the gates not been opened the innocent fans at the front at the turnstiles would have undoubtedly been injured. I am not being 'idiotic' - the gates were opened for a reason. There is blame on all sides here. Unfortunately it was the innocent fans who lost their lives.
  • Funny how many people know the 'truth' about that day, and therefore know for certain that there has been a cover-up.
If everyone already knows the truth, then what has actually been covered-up?
Cant see this thread lasting long anyway.
  • As an inquest will cost a fortune that Mrs Williams will not have to pay for I can understand why she is keen to have another one. I am no legal specialist, but my 19 year old brother-in-law was killed in a car accident a couple of years ago so I understand her loss and the the need to blame someone, but the Hillsborough tragedy was over twenty years ago and this will not bring him back.

It is probably comforting to think that there is ultimately someone to blame, but sometimes terrible things happen and no one deliberately caused it and finding a scape goat is no consolation at all.
  • signed ! and reviewing anything is never a bad thing
  • Never ever ever blame the good old cheeky scouse fans for they had nothing to do with it whatsoever.

They've never tried to get in a ground they had no tickets for , love able rogues
  • Totally understand Ann Williams' distress, but I wouldn't sign any petition which accused a coroner of corruption, perverting the course of justice and surpression of evidence without being pretty sure of my ground.

She wants the verdict of accidental death overturned - does she think someone killed her son?
  • yeah Jints it was

    the sun

    Kelvin McKenzie

    Yorkshire Police

    The FA

    blah blah blah
  • Are you a parent Buckshee? My heart goes out to her and the need for closure and an answer.

  • yes I am a parent and if I'd lost one of my kids and then had to watch loads of idiots push their way into a football ground then I know one of the places I'd be looking
  • The thing is Eynsford, she has had an answer but she doesn't 'believe' it.

My wife's parents struggled with the loss of their son, but after the inquest that came up with a similar outcome they accepted it and tried to rebuild their lives.

Even if she is right and a new inquest results in different findings Mrs Williams is not going to get her son back, and it's more likely that she will never have a verdict that fillsthehole left by her son's death.
