When was the last time we had 31?

edited January 2012 in General Charlton
What about that goal differance +31....and its only January...could record points and GD,what an achievment, another win next week will certainly put some breathing space between us and second. Then there's that small point of 10 away wins, some times I read the details twice just to make sure.
WHAT A TEAM ! and when was the last time we said that.

  • I seem to remember us having a really good away record during the early 90's I think we won 11 away, but that was over a whole season......good stuff eh.

12 wins and we'll do it I reckon!

    The league that is.
  • 2 league defeats 11/12
    8 league defeats 34/35 and 09/10
    9 league defeats 35/36, 36/37, 85/86, 95/96 and 99/00
  • Goal Difference

    51 goals 34/35
    38 goals 57/58
    34 goals 99/00
    33 goals 85/86
    31 goals 97/98 and 11/12
  • Yes, if we win our remaining home games we'll have 93 points! Hard to see us slipping up as whilst we could drop a few at the Valley, surely this will be more than compensated by the away points we will pick up. Positively, if we could put a run together now, we could be out of site!

Would be great to witness some positive history being created, need to go on a 8 game winning streak!
  • That 34/35 season was a good'un. Shame it was 40 odd years before my time.

A couple of seasons later we finished runners up in top division too - wouldn't mind repeating that!

    League Clean Sheets

    20 Clean Sheets 80/81 and 97/98
    17 Clean Sheets 24/25
    16 Clean Sheets 99/00
    15 Clean Sheets 85/86, 92/93 and 09/10
    10 Clean Sheets 11/12
  • Disgraceful that we are not scoring enough, nor keeping enough clean sheets. And there was me thinking we could break all the records.... ;-)
  • I'll be gutted if we don't break every single record this season :-)
  • That is just our (Hudds) luck.
Last season we had a club record number of points, but still 2 good teams finished above us.
This season we are 7 points better off than last season, and again the is a good team well above us.

If we can have our usual good second half of the season, I still fancy us to finish 2nd.
Esp as both Sheffield's, MKD and yourselves have to come visit West Yorkshire.

On the plus side you did go 176 games unbeaten :-)

  • We would like to think so,
But according to The Football League, it was 43 regular season games.
    That is THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE,
not Huddersfield Town or Huddersfield fans.

If we win 15 and draw 4 of our remaining 21 games (and lose the other 2) we will equal Reading's record total of 106 points in a season. Given that only 4 of those 21 games are against teams who are anywhere near us in the table, this is a possibility. Of course, if we could turn one of those draws into another win...
  • I did the BBC predictor yesterday and had us to finish on 107. Mk Dons second, Huddersfield third, then The Sheffields (who would play each other in the first round of play of games if that happened followed by Stevenage (just above Carlisle)

43 regular games, on saturday, when it was sunny. And it doesnt count if you let in more than you score. :)
  • 107 points!

Is that the ONE AIM now?
  • edited January 2012
107 points is an item on the wish list, not a priority. But, anyway, ONE AIM - great rallying call for the fans but useless for the club. When promotion has been achieved do we really want SCP to be thinking, “OK. Done that. Now what do I do?” No, fortunately he has something better than ONE AIM and that is ONE VISION. Promotion this season is an aim, right enough, but it’s just a milestone on the way to where we want to be, and not the only one. We don’t need another summer of team rebuilding so promotion, not on any terms, but with a team capable of competing in the Championship is what is needed or, better still, as momentum is important, with the basis of a team which is able to challenge for another promotion straight away. Creating and maintaining a winning mentality (possibly thereby getting to at least 107 points?), drawing the fans back, redressing the corrosive mood of pessimism about the club – these have all been aims for this season. SCP honing his managerial skills is another. IMO at this half way stage, with things looking good and the team well on its way, we no longer need to be quite so desperate for promotion on any terms, especially if that includes a swift return to League 1 for a team unprepared for the next level.
  • Hard work reading that Bill with no paragraphs. Sorry to be a pedant.
  • edited January 2012
How many paragraphs can you sensibly make out of 9 sentences? :-)
  • I think it is a decent target to aim to break 100 points. The important things is to set your own target and not have them in relation to opposing clubs. Don't worry about them, if we get the points we will go up irrespective of how opponents do.
  • Bang on, Mutts.

    Good post, Bill.
