I think we've been set up for the 'worst case scenario' with players like Wiggins on 2/3 year deals so there's re-sale value if teams do come in, and then we're possibly able to convince them to stay here and have another go.
Although, that could be the owners get out plan.. recoup transfer fees and then run for the hills ;o)
Lets hope it won't come to that, we're well on course for what we want this season.
Can't imagine the owners being sentimental. Unless it is a heroic failure it could be bye bye SCP - If it goes to the wire maybe he'll be reprieved. Either way I don't see massive squad changes next time
We've not been top all season based on luck. We are a very good league one team with strength in depth, experience and talent and the squad is still getting stronger. Just chill.
Call me a silly old sod but i cannot see the point of this thread. We are having one of the best seasons ever.
I can go back to 1956 when i first watched Charlton.
Enjoy what they are doing now WINNING GAMES. That's what we all want. If they win it makes the weekend happy if they lose it give you a sad feeling.
Charlton always have and always will be a team that will have success and failure. They are not one of the Manchester United's of this world and that is the reason we love them because the future is unpredictable.
Enjoy the roller coaster ride with all it's twists an turns and ups and downs.
I think it would be ridiculous to not keep him unless it was an unmitigated disaster between now and May.
He appears to be a big part of what has got the club moving forwards for the first time since before even Curbishley went and they are 99% all his players. Think while a million miles from the finished article he will only improve as a manager with experience and it would be a sad day should he get shown the door.
My bigger fear would be in his success he made the decision to move to pastures new but hopefully as a club well be successful enough over the next 5 or so years that neither option would be warranted.
As with all hypothetical questions, it is impossible to say with any certainty. If we had a terrible string of obvious bad luck, still played winning football, but didn't quite do enough to get second place and got knocked out against the run of play in the play off final. I'd expect the board to recognise the CP has done a good job, but that sometimes things don't always go your way. If however there were some dressing room shenanigans with a stream of heavy defeats and players desperate to leave I'd expect them to lose patience and try someone else. At the end of the day, it just ain't worth worrying about. There's too many scenarios mid-way between the two I've mentioned to think about. Just enjoy the fact that we are top of the league and doing rather well.
In answer to your hypothetical question , I would think SCP should be given to November to see how he lifts his troops if the unthinkable happened And we'd see how good the new owners really are , it's when the shit starts hitting the fan that the owners true colours and expertise will be shown

I said it wasn't a "we're going to blow it" thread. It was a genuine question.
This is a bigger, better and more balanced squad. When a clueless manager can get 84 points someone like Powell should get over 120 easily.
If not we can give him another year and blame Alex Dyer and Phil Chapple.
Unless we cock it up immensely and fall out the top 6 then there's no way Powell should be sacked.
Keep the faith, people. Best team we've had for years.

Chris Powell is very much part of the big picture in planning at Charlton.
The idea is that he grows with the club, and the club grows with him.
