That Norwich goal has to be right up there as best Mortimer moment.
Worst either missing the pen against Leeds in 98/9 or his woeful attempt at defending in 93/4 against Derby when we snatched defeat from the jaws of victory 4-3.
Definitley the goal against Chelsea - I was the ball boy infront of the Chelsea fans that game and so had one hell of a view of that goal....happy days.
His right foot curler up at Leeds was a bit special the year we went down too...
Anyone remember man city away, when he jinked through the middle and smashed it in? Cheeserolls and peakeysrocket where screaming for him to pass it! I await the morts dvd. And his sliding tackles! What a player!

I agree a "best of Morts" dvd would be great. I was just remembering some of them, Norwich obviously. Wasn't there a great goal against Bradford in the play promotion season?
Chelsea and Everton for me, but whenever he scored they were special, did he score in the 2-2 at Highbury? best CAFC following away I have been part of except Wemberley....
Morts and Chrissy Powell as Guests at a supporters club meeting in a Sydenham pub. Great stories like when being called off the bench by Lennie Lawrence and told to "go out there and DO something"
Didn't he run into the crowd through an open gate after scoring at Ipswich in that 4-4 match? Quality!
When he signed for Bristol City their manager came out with, "He's got a left foot like a wand" - to which I said to my mate, "And I bet his wand is like a left foot too"
Remember his goals at Maine road and Norwich were very similar where he beat 3 or 4 of there players before scoring. Think Norwich were top at the time.
Norwich is the one for me too. I'm not sure there were cameras there, though, were there? (Might be a problem for the best of DVD...)
Remember the Bradford one too - but I wasn't there. We were on holiday in Orkney, and I remember sitting in the pub car park at lunchtime listening on the car radio - his brilliance shone through even over the airwaves.
I think theres a morts 'best of' on the end of one of the dvds... think is either in the last few years or extras on the centenary... thats defiantley got the Norwich and chelsea goal...
Bradford city at home. The ball was sewn on to his boots as he weaved past four bradford players. Brownie got a cracker from forty yards that day. Do you remember those cream coloured boots mortimer was wearing at highbury when we come up in 98. Class!
It was the 4-2 against Forest. Morts came in kind of inside left (inside left? for God's sake I'm only 39!), played a one-two off the right back's arse, collected it, sold Cooper the most minimalist dummy on his left which Cooper might still be going for NOW he slid that far, and side footed it with his right into the bottom near post corner. Genius. But Soccerbase is wrong, it wasn't a night game.

Definate selective memories when it comes to looking back on Morts IMO. For every one good game or memorable moment of skill, it would follow three indifferent ones and then a period out injured.
He had great ability, but we only saw it in flashes, but its those flashes that makes him more rememberable than others who didn't nut meg someone every 4 games, but in terms of the bigger picture, gave a lot more to the cause and success of a side than Morts did.
Just my opinion, and i'm not knocking him. I just don't think he was as good as some are making out 15-20 years on.

With Morts on the pitch there was aleays a chance of something special happening - a joy to watch and a smashing bloke!
