called up to the england u17s
son of gus could he be as good as his dad?

Comments

  • Rumour has it he has potential to be even better.

Surely if he was that good though he'd be at Brighton
  • Here's hoping.. although if he is, he'll get nicked off us anyway :/

    diegopoyet7 Diego Poyet
Expecting a performance and result from cardiff tonight against the scum #hatepalace

    His a smart lad though.
  • But Brighton hate Palarse more than we do - if that's possible!!!!
  • Diego Poyet @diegopoyet7 6m
Still have no idea how Palace managed to win that game. Hoof after hoof after hoof #shocking
  • Gus has taken the refreshing view that he wants his son to make his own way at a different club to him.

    Excellant tweets from him tonight.
  • Well said Diego!
  • Well his Dad being Brighton manager, and him playing for us, you wouldn't really expect anything less, would you?

Think he would do better being at a club that his dad does not manage.

    Nope!
  • By the looks of his twitter he also hates arsenal, Rio Ferdinand and utd, likes Leeds, big brother and demba ba

  • Has potential to be a Charlton legend with those comments.
  • He's also said some odd things to do with the evra/suarez affair. Basically repeating what his dad has said, which i guess is understandable when you're young.
  • Get in there Diego , the stripey scum are known by all you cannot hide this that know football know scum when you see it
  • I really like this kid. I'd be surprised if we ever see him in the first team though. I think he might be rather good when he's older and will be poached

But echoing previous statements - both Gus and Diego are very happy with his development at Charlton and long may it continue
  • I was under the impression he had already agreed his first professional contract with us which he is due to sign when he is 17 I believe in March.
  • there was interest from arsenal around a year back

He had, hopefully it'll be confirmed that he's signed on his 17th birthday as it was with Shelvey and Cousins.
  • I have it on good authority Gus is a big fan of how Diego has been handled and progressed at CAFC and recommended that he stay there when Arsenal came sniffing around.......long may it continue!
  • Poyet was at ours last year they asked him about Diego and Gus said that he would never manage a team that his son played for as he was much to harsh a critic where he was concerned. He then when on to talk about Diego's game that morning and listed a whole bunch of things which he should have done better!
  • Only reason he is at charlton and not Brighton Is because he's been with us for a number of years and him/his dad doesnt want to change anything because it could affect his game as h is settled, according to what Iv heard is he is very happy to be with our academy.

  • making some pretty stupid comments there in my opinion, someone needs to have a word

He doesn't want to be at the same club as his dad, and the feeling's mutual I think. He really likes Charlton - when I've spoken to him he refers to the club as "we". He's got more chance of first team action here is what he's saying, and establishing himself and that. I think.

PS He's a Newcastle fan I think. Well, when I've played football with him he wore a Magpies shirt.

From the link to the palace site:
"Everyone thinks their club is the best in the world. But i truly believe what we have at Palace is unique."
    Unique is an understatement!

I think the term he was looking for was "special".
They are very special that lot.

I truly believe Palarse are the worst club in the world. I know they haven't got many but for me it is a miracle how anybody supports them at all.

EastStamd has probably explained it - it you add the word 'needs'.
