Would you like the chance to play against the current first team?

edited January 2012 in General Charlton
Just showed on Sky sports news Notts County players are currently playing a match against supporters, apparently Martin Allen encourages whatever teams he manages to do the same. Would anyone be up for it if Charlton did the same? I think it's a really good idea and all teams should do it at least once a season. They play 14 fans versus 11 players the score was 9-0 to the first team with a few minutes to go so 3 extra men not much help then :)

  • Would love it, can you imagine beating them? lol
  • I just see that too. Think it's a quality idea. Even though your playing the first team I think 14 is too much. Prob make it too crowded and as we just see on ssn that the extra men haven't exactly helped.
  • With Bexley Dan in centre mid we'd be unstoppable.
  • back in the day it would have been great but now i would just be kicking shadows... though im sure i could still put in a nice corner and a long throw if that helps my chances of being picked ;o)
  • "WE ALL DREAM OF A TEAM OF BEXLEY DANS..."
  • With Bexley Dan in centre mid we'd be unstoppable.
That would hardly be fair to the first team. Perhaps we should make him play with a handicap to slow him up? Like he must be forced to carry around his ego.
  • I'll be a wide man!

I've never been fast, but a few years ago I played in a 5 - a side game and one of the opposition who I had employed was being all cocky so I decided to put in one of my sliding knock 'em up in the air tackles. As I went to launch he was there but by the time the 16 stone slide in he was down the other end of the pitch. I knew that what speed I had was gone. My speed was deceptive, I was slower than I looked.

Not mid season though. Would you want to face everyone if you inadvertantly crocked BWP, Green or someone?

  • I've got the fitness levels of Cory Gibbs, touch of Djimi Traore, and the pace of Grant Basey.
Give me a bell asap and i'll be there.

Completely agree about it being wrong in midseason but pre season would be a great idea.

  • What about if you injured a key player! Think a better idea as a bonus preseason game would be a fans v explayers match.
  • I think I should be considered for the team. I could play in the hole. I've never been quite sure what this means but I am assuming it means I can watch the midfielders and strikers run around in circles while I don't do anything. This seems an ideal role for me at my age and also means that I don't get blamed if we fail to score and also do not get blamed if the midfield is overran as it will not be my responsibility,
  • would love to do that, only play in goal thou.

No problem - count me in - following my broken ankle i wouldn't now be too much of a threat to them so any concerns of me affecting their confidence are reduced but will happily come along and dictate play from centre mid if required.
  • Would love it, absolutely love it if we beat them!

I would love to play though. Definately
  • So can anyone ask in one of the next supporters meeting if they would do that in the summer.

20 years ago i would have jumped at the chance , now erm maybe not.... :-0

Molby-esque, never leaving the centre circle eh.
  • I'm a 41 year old fat git with 2 buggered knees,
but as I'm 6 ft I automatically qualify to be better than either of our full backs.
  • I would but I feel it would destroy Solly's confidence every time I steam past him. Wouldn't be good for the team.
  • Well my playing days are truly over, if they ever began at 60?
But....... CAFC should invite people /fans to put together a five a side knock out competition for adults, with the proceeds going to demelza
Two pitches on the valley week after end of season. You could make it a 2 day event, even get the Charlton vets to get a team up........
    £100 entry fee per team.
There must be quite a few on here who manage clubs sides/Saturday teams...... supporters clubs etc.
    I could enter two teams?
  • I'd run rings round them! ;)
  • I'm actually annoyed tbf because I had operation on my foot in december and it might have stopped me playing football for good.

This is just after I got a contract with semi-pro club Waltham Abbey, 50 quid a game not bad.

I played youth football for a shite team from Bermondsey way. Had trials at a few league teams...Played Non League then Sunday league for a while but thesedays I couldn't run for a bus although I'd still probably get past Docherty!
  • At Scrabble, yes, no problem.
  • I call Right back.

    Great idea to.
  • 42 now but still consider myself one of the greatest players never to have played at a professional level because I was just too good & would have embarrased every defender that I played against into retirement. Exceptionally fit still, tanned, nice car, good looking, animal lover & modest.
