Alcohol free days

edited January 2012 in General Charlton
The BBC today reported that the House of Commons science committee has recommended that on two days a week we should abstain from alcohol. I thoroughly agree with that recommendation and indeed have practised it for several years. The key is (like our MPs) in the presentation. Two days a week is 48 hours. Therefore I abstain from drinking any alcohol between midnight and 7 in the morning. This in fact gives me 49 hours alcohol free hours EVERY week - more than is recommended. And I don't miss out on my sleep, so I'm a winner twice over.

I pass this handy tip on to other Lifers although you may wish to juggle with the hours a little. Can't write any more as I've also read a headline saying that red wine is good for the heart so I'm off to improve my health even more.

  • I thought the title was, "Free alcohol days". Disappointed.
  • Sounds good to me.

    I'm fed up with the government complaining about drinking, smoking (and road safety)... don't they realise that today's pension deficit problems could be solved overnight if they changed their tune?
  • I'm fed up with the goverment telling us how to live our lives...
  • Probably the only thread on CL where I have ever agreed with all the first six posts.
  • The 7th post has let it down though.

    And the less said about the 8th the better!
  • I'll drink to that......................
  • Find it pretty sad insinuating drinking alcohol five days out of seven is acceptable to be honest.

    I like a drink, but more than happy containing it to just once or twice a week.

    I've been drinking for two days solid now, but think I am going to struggle to drink for 5 whole days.

    Looking forward to having those two days off to be honest....

    Well that explains a lot.........

  • I find it hard to believe the general population dont know the dangers of drinking alcohol.
    I like a pint but it would cease to be enjoyable if it becomes part of my every day life. I think a pint or two at the weekend wont do you any harm but it also wont do you any good.

    on a serious note ,there are some that would actually take the message thats it ok to go on a bender as long as you have 2 days rest every week

    One piece of advice I do try and follow is "five a day" of fruit and veg.

    Five glasses of wine = job done. Made from grapes, isn't it?
  • nah you cant have the same 5 fuits so 1 red 1 white, and some various ciders should do the trick
  • Does playing on the "fruit machine" in the Pub count as 1 ?
  • Quitting is for quiters and I never give up on anything !

  • You lot have got it all wrong

    5 a day
    Cider = Apples
    Wine = Grapes
    Sloe Gin = Sloes
    Cherry Brandy = Cherries
    Apricot Schnapps = Apricots

    Cracked it!!!!

    I'm on a Vodka Diet at the moment.
    2 bottles a day and you don't care what you look like.
  • CV is well into the spirit of it.
