Can I assure you they do check tickets on East Coast Mainline and they do expect you to stump up the full fare any chance they get. In particular watch out for the trick of having to show your seat reservation if you have bought a discounted advance ticket. The only reason for that is so they can catch you out and charge you again. It's in the small print that it's only valid with the seat reservation.
I have a feeling that in the interests of staying in one piece the ticket inspectors have a policy of not enforcing this rule when Millwall are on the train. I doubt that will apply in the case of a family club like us.
Buy the 5.18 ticket and if asked by the conductor on the train just say the police wouldn't let you leave the ground / escorted you back slowly / put you on this train.
Not such a good excuse when following Charlton I guess.
Ain't there a millsmall forum for rejects like yourself? The jokes are getting better and better from you.
Basically, on the way home there is a train from Scunthorpe to London departing at 17.18 and this costs only £13.00
If you want to catch the 17.18 you will have more chance catching it from Althorpe (calls there 17.23). It appears from the map to be about the same distance from the ground (in the opposite direction to Scunthorpe). Buses from the main road depart at 16:55 and 17:15.

Yep, definitely not try to get on another train. Booked tickets for train specified only
Found a good deal, go via Hull Trains to Doncaster and back and its £13.20 return with a 16-25 railcard then £6.75 return from there to Scunny on TransPennine
Last time I was on a dry train was Sheffield Utd but as Elfsborg said, That was more down to us winning and a certain comedian propping up the bar celebrating!

UPDATE: Thanks to all for their contributions here, much appreciated.
The problem has now been solved by another one of my mates agreeing to drive us all up there, so now we won't have to pay any money to those robbing bastards at the train companies!
Does anyone know the best way to drive to Scunthorpe.......:)

M25.....M11.........short section of A1M.....A1 to Newark.....A46 to Lincoln (this is a by-pass to the north of the city.)....A15 to Scunthorpe.
Sounds a little complicated but quite straight forward really.

Bloody hell BFR, I'd hate to be your dog - that's a respectable running pace your proposing there not a walk.
Went in 2008 but drove from the West Midlands. We went up the M1, M18, M180 but SoundAs' route sounds a good one as long as you don't stuck behind too many tractors on the A16. You can park along the A18 Doncaster Road which is west of the ground. It's about a 5 or 10 minute walk from there (in trainers and not BFR's rocket boots), as long as you don't get there too late and find all the spaces gone. We had a Scunny fan with us and that's where he told us to park so I guess it's one of the best places. Was easy to get away after the game as you can just drop straight onto the M181.

I would rather drive up and spend 5 hours on the motorway than live in Grimsby!

Who was the comedian?
Jim Davidson.

"went to the Mcdonalds for a pre game bite to eat, the food was fantastic there, well cooked and fresh, impressed with the service there too................... I may add the pint of Fosters I had that day was very nice, well chilled as well. "
Reading this review, it's hard to imagine anyone not wanting to go to Scunthorpe.

I'd love to add their "new" ground to my collection, but doubt if I can get back same day.
