Promotion - how long will they keep us waiting? which match?

edited January 2012 in General Charlton
ok, I'm sure a few will moan about this thread, but its just a bit of fun.

I am very hopeful of the automatics. OK we've still got half a season to play, but lets be presumptuous and somewhat hypothetical.

I'm going for Carlisle..

  • has to be Carlisle - history says so !!
  • Carlisle is perfect due to its historic nature, is it on a Friday night like last time we got promoted, I was at Catterick in the army at the time so went to the game, plus we can pontificate about where everyone was for pre season friendlies and call each other plastic or glory hunting etc, sounds great!

I would take Hartlepool on the last day just as long as we get there, especially if the Spanners go down on the same day!
  • Don't care as long as it happens

As far as I can remember the games where we have got promoted have always been away. Blackburn , Carlisle etc.. . Wouldn't it be fantastic to do it at The Valley.
  • Walsall home!
  • In 9 and a half years (I'm not going to jinx this season).
  • Unless the game we get promoted in is against Fulham, I won't bother.

I'm only in it for the glory.

Neither Carlisle promotion game was on a Friday night, although we did play them on a Friday night in May 1985 (the year before the second one), which I also attended.
  • Home to Wycombe please, the one game I'l be attending this season.

Your right, Friday 3 May 85 1-1, I saw us win 3-2 the following year in a saturday so not as hardcore as I thought Iwas all these years.....
  • yeah has to be carsile, but i got a feeling it might be leyton oreint at home
In many ways that would be great as it is the day of my 50th birthday - but we will not be there as we will be on holiday.
  • Walsall away, on my birthday.  That would be quality
  • I've had a feeling all season that something would happen at the oldham away game, either promotion or champions, i`m sticking to that. I don't know why but you just get the feeling that if it happens it'll be away, don't know why
  • Walsall or Wycombe would be nice, two of my five Jackson's Five games.
  • Sheffield Wednesday away :)

  • Preston away for me.

Was at that game too, 2-0 nil down I walk off to the tea hut (literally) feeling gutted, and a certain Jim Tolmie scores a 25 yard own goal...apparently I didn't see it...to turn the tide and see out a 3-2 win. Ran on the pitch to loft up the great Lennie Lawrence - the best train journey home ever!
  • Good memories of Carlisle......

Walsall away has already been and gone mate ...
  • Carlisle would be good.

    Been twice and promoted twice.

  • Preston. Last time I was at a promotion party other than Wembley was vs Preston at the Valley. 26000 in for a Div 3 game. A good night, and I'll be there again.

Remember that Preston game well 1975 for no other reason than Booby Goldthorpe at centre half and I'm pretty sure Bobby Charlton was their manager.
  • Has to be Preston for me - the L1 nearest ground to me, it just has to be.
  • All round yours after then Lancs for a knees up?
  • The Valley and six goals, please!
